Reports To: Chief Accessibility Officer
The Director of Accessibility will lead Disability:IN’s accessibility strategy in Europe, ensuring that products, services, and experiences are accessible for all. This role will drive the development of resources and offerings that assist Disability:IN Corporate Partners to build effective accessibility strategies, working closely with cross-functional teams to integrate accessibility into all aspects of their business.

Director of Accessibility Responsibilities
- Deliver strategic leadership: Collaborate with executive leadership to ensure accessibility goals aligned with organizational objectives and the Disability Equality Index.
- Provide accessibility training and development: Develop and lead training to educate internal and external stakeholders about accessibility best practices, guidelines, and compliance. Function as a resource for corporate partners, providing expertise on how to implement accessibility effectively.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams internally and externally to identify issues impacting the user experience for people with disabilities and ensure accessibility is integrated into all phases of the product lifecycle.
- Stay up to date on accessibility trends: Monitor industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies related to accessibility. Serve as an accessibility evangelist.
- Build accessibility community: Foster a culture of accessibility within the organization and engage with the broader accessibility community. Serve as a liaison between the organization and corporate partners, gathering insights to enhance the user experience for all.
- Conduct accessibility audits: Regularly conduct accessibility audits of Disability:IN products, services, and digital assets to identify and address barriers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, human-computer interaction, or a related field.
- 6-10+ years of experience in accessibility or a related field.
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards e.g., Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), European Accessibility Act (EAA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Experience working within one or more multi-national corporations to advance accessibility.
- Experience conducting accessibility audits and testing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Certifications in accessibility (e.g., Certified Accessibility Professional Core Competency (CAPCC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), ADA Coordinator) are preferred.
Additional Skills (Preferred)
- Experience with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers, keyboard navigation).
- Knowledge of programming languages and development frameworks.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and automation frameworks.
- Experience working abroad with a proven track record of engaging with global companies and non-government organizations.
Work Schedule, Location, and Travel Requirements:
- Full-Time Position - Located in Europe.
- Managed through Employer of Record (EOR).
- Legally able to work in the country of residence.
- Disability:IN is a fully remote organization. All employees are expected to operate independently from their home offices daily.
- Must be willing to travel 2-3 times per year.
- Flexible work hours leading up to and during events and a willingness to work outside of typical working hours to accommodate meetings with participants from around the world.
