ERM, the worlds largest pure-play sustainability consultancy, are seeking a talented Ecology Survey Lead, this role sits at our Senior Consultant level. You’ll join our Onshore Renewables and Infrastructure team within Capital Project Delivery. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills in multiple areas, across UK and International projects. The successful candidate must be based within regular travel distance of our York office or be willing to relocate – please confirm any intention to relocate in your application.
An Ecologist in the Renewables industry plays an essential role in ensuring that renewable energy projects are developed in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner. You will be assessing the environmental impacts of wind, solar, and battery storage projects, identifying potential risks and mitigation measures, and ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met. This role is critical in promoting ecological stewardship, enhancing biodiversity, and minimizing the environmental impact of renewable energy projects.
In the winter the role will be mainly desk based, in the summer you will be busy out on site – no matter what the weather! You’ll lead terrestrial ecology surveys, desk-based studies and data submissions. You’ll prepare technical reports, turn your hand to Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Assessments, and write into Ecological Impact Assessment Chapters.

About you
- Degree qualified in Ecology/Zoology – or equivalent skills & experience
- Experienced at leading site surveys; protected species/habitats/botanical
- Some botanical survey experience is essential in order to undertake Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA)
- Knowledge of ecology survey guidance and legislation
- Willingness to mentor and support the development of less experienced team members
- CIEEM member or working towards this
- A full driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK is essential (please ensure that this is confirmed on your CV)
