Job Summary: 

The Assistant Director, IAM (Identity and Access Management) Team is responsible for leading a team of IAM professionals in developing, implementing, and managing IAM strategies and solutions. This role combines strong technical acumen with effective people leadership to support secure access control and identity governance across the organization. This position will oversee day-to-day operations, manage project timelines, and ensure IAM policies align with overall cybersecurity and business objectives. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Technical Leadership 

  • Oversee IAM systems and tools, including provisioning, deprovisioning, Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC), Single Sign-On (SSO) and System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) solutions 

  • Drive the implementation and management of IAM policies, processes, and best practices to secure access and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. 

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for IAM, advising cross-functional teams on identity security risks, technologies, and solutions. 

  • Lead technical design and architectural decisions for IAM initiatives, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with organizational needs. 

  • Identify and resolve technical IAM issues, facilitating quick responses to access-related incidents and coordinating with incident response teams as needed. 

People Leadership 

  • Directly manage and mentor a team of IAM professionals, providing coaching, goal setting, and performance evaluations. 

  • Cultivate a collaborative, high-performance team environment that encourages continuous improvement and professional growth. 

  • Conduct regular team meetings, promote knowledge-sharing, and encourage innovative approaches to IAM challenges. 

  • Ensure team members are equipped with the tools, training, and resources needed to perform their roles effectively. 

  • Lead recruitment efforts to attract and retain top IAM talent, fostering a culture of inclusivity and excellence. 

Experience and Qualifications 

  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Okta Certified, CISSP, CISM, or CIAM are highly desirable. 

  • Technical Skills: 

  • Extensive knowledge of IAM technologies, including SSO (ODIC, SAML, SWA), 2FA/MFA, RBAC, and identity governance and administration (IGA). 

  • Experience with IAM tools (e.g., Okta, SailPoint, Microsoft Entra ID, or similar platforms), implementation and administration. Okta Identity Engine (OIE) experience preferred. 

  • Strong understanding of security standards, including NIST, ISO 27001, and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, SOX). 

  • Professional Experience: 

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in IT or Cybersecurity with at least 5 years in IAM. 

  • Minimum of 3 years in a management or lead role, demonstrating effective leadership of technical teams. 

  • Proven track record of leading IAM projects from inception through implementation and support. 

Personal Skills 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset for risk management. 

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

  • Ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying current with IAM trends and best practices.
