Job Description
Title: Graphic Design Consultant
Agency: Plan International
Location: Home-based
Time period: November 2024 – February 2025
Background
Plan works for girls’ rights. Harmful barriers like child marriage, human trafficking and gender-based violence are preventing girls and young women from achieving their full potential. Plan, along with government and private partners, fights against harmful gender norms and empowers young people to create positive change in their communities. We have worked in communities for more than 80 years and provide locally-driven programming through 240 offices around the world. Plan International is fully committed to the safeguarding of all children and young people from all forms of violence.
Plan International is currently implementing a two-year, global-level child protection in humanitarian action (CPHA) project funded by USAID/BHA. The project is focused on developing and testing global-level guidance for CPHA programming and will have several key deliverables that either need graphic design or will require updating existing InDesign templates to incorporate changes to the resources.
Scope of the Work
The Graphic Design Consultant will be responsible for developing a highly specialized template design and implementation for the Child Protection-Food Security (CP-FS) Program Toolkit (in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Arabic). The CP-FS Program Framework will include both word documents (11 documents, est. 64 pages without graphic design) and PowerPoints (4 PowerPoints, 86 slides total).
The Graphic Design Consultant will also be responsible for updating the InDesign file for the Prevention Framework for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action to reflect changes in content and new design elements (estimated to be 6 additional pages). This will include updating the Arabic, French, and Spanish versions of the Framework. In addition, this will require graphic design of newly developed resources that will need to match the look and feel of the existing framework (1 PowerPoint, 10 slides; 3 word documents, estimated 50 pages; 1 flowchart).
The Graphic Design Consultant will work closely with Plan International’s Associate Director, Humanitarian Programs, as well as with the Prevention Advisor and Child Protection-Food Security Specialist, to make decisions on graphics, illustrations, look & feel and formatting, and strict adherence to USAID and Alliance branding guidelines. Plan International will keep the Graphic Design Consultant informed on resource development timeline, length, and deadlines.
The Graphic Design Consultant is expected to make recommendations and participate in joint decision making with Plan International on which aspects of the narrative should be illustrated, where illustrations should be placed on each page, how the illustrations can enhance the narrative and make it more user-friendly. The Consultant is also expected to, on a rolling basis, update on progress, report any challenges, and troubleshoot solutions.
The Graphic Design Consultant is responsible for the following deliverables:
- Agreed upon work plan and timeline for completion of the consultancy and decision-making benchmarks.
- A sample of the first 3-10 pages of designed and formatted material (depending on resource) for review and approval before subsequent work is undertaken.
- First draft of the graphic design of each resource for review by Plan .
- Final resource layout incorporating Plan feedback of each resource.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience with graphic design of guidance documents, toolkits, and PowerPoints.
- Ability to work independently and as a team player.
- Strong organizational and work prioritization skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to solve problems independently without direct supervisions.
- Patient, adaptable, flexible, able to improvise and remain responsive under pressure.
