Position Overview:
We have an immediate need for Automotive Electronics Technician. Responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting telematics systems in vehicles. These systems involve a combination of telecommunications and informatics, typically used for fleet management, GPS tracking, and monitoring vehicle performance. This job requires a blend of technical, analytical, and communication skills to ensure that telematics systems are functioning optimally and meeting the needs of vehicle fleet managers. Below is a detailed job description for a Telematics Technician.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
· Installation and Setup:
o Install telematics devices, including GPS, vehicle tracking systems, and wireless communication equipment in vehicles.
o Ensure proper integration of telematics systems with the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics and electrical systems.
o Calibrate and test equipment for functionality and accuracy after installation.
· Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
o Perform routine maintenance on telematics systems to ensure they remain functional.
o Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to telematics systems, including hardware malfunctions and software glitches.
o Upgrade software and hardware as needed to maintain system efficiency and compatibility.
· Documentation and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and upgrades performed on telematics systems.
o Prepare reports on system performance, troubleshooting activities, and customer feedback.
Qualifications:
· Education:
o High school diploma or equivalent required.
o Technical diploma or certification in electronics, telecommunications, automotive technology, or related fields preferred.
· Experience (optional but preferred):
o Previous experience with telematics systems, automotive electronics, GPS technology, or related fields is highly desirable.
o Experience working with vehicle electrical systems and diagnostic tools is highly desirable.
o We are willing to train the right people.
Skills:
o Strong technical knowledge of telematics systems, including GPS tracking, vehicle diagnostics, and wireless communication systems is a plus.
o Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and schematics.
o Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
o Good communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
o Proficiency with diagnostic software and tools is a plus.
o Knowledge of vehicle mechanics is a plus.
Working Conditions:
· Ability to work both in the field (installing and troubleshooting telematics systems in vehicles) and in an office or workshop environment.
· Requires travel to client locations or vehicle sites.
· Physical ability to work on vehicles in different settings, often requiring crawling into tight spaces or working in uncomfortable positions.
