Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work; AND Have an LMSW from the State of Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services; OR
  • Possess a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling; AND have a license as a professional counselor (LPC) from the State of Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry Services; AND
  • Must meet qualifications of a Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP) and/or Mental Health Professional (MHP) per the Michigan PIHP/CMHSP Provider Qualifications per Medicaid Services. 
  • Have had at least three (3) years of full-time casework experience including 1 year in a leadership role.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator or chauffeur's license.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assigns and supervises the caseload of direct reports staff.  Assists staff as required to manage caseload efficiently.
  • Reviews cases to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services rendered.  Conducts staff meetings to review strengths, outcomes, problem areas and plan solutions.
  • Assists staff in improving and updating professional skills by providing them with information such as pertinent conferences and seminars, new techniques in the field and current and pending legislation affecting mental health services.  Orients, trains, and develops new staff.
  • Monitors case records, including signatures, and follow up and referral of individuals to community agencies to aid in an accurate history.  Ensures that paperwork is maintained in accordance with Medicaid & DCH, & Easterseals MORC guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify stage of change and use interventions consistent with stage of treatment. Assist staff in developing strength-based, stage wise treatment matched person centered plans that are designed to address identified individual needs. Able to provide resources for integrated treatment including self-help and peer support.
  • Model and use the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing in all interactions with staff, individuals and stakeholders.
  • Provides outcome and strength based supervision to staff utilizing a range of supervision techniques to foster professional development and performance, develop skill sets and increase individual outcomes. Conduct clinical case reviews that are competency based, strength based, culturally relevant and focus on improving client outcomes. (i.e. utilize motivational interviewing with staff-direct, follow, and guide approach).
  • Familiar with a variety of outcome measures for psychiatric and co-occurring substance use, medical or other disorders. Able to utilize outcome measurements in supervision and with person centered planning.
  • Provide support, education, and reinforce the use of prescribed medications to treat substance use and mental health disorders.
  • May also be responsible for the coordination of specific programs and projects as assigned.
  • Acts as a liaison with community agencies and substance use and mental health service providers, maintaining an awareness of the full range of human services available in the community that may be appropriate for client needs.
  • Instructs, assigns, schedules, checks and appraises performance.  Hires, recommends disciplinary action and discharge, and recommends pay increases and/or promotions.
  • Monitors Staff’s caseload to ensure implementation of approved EBP.
  • Completes monthly chart audits in accordance with KPI standards.
