Business Intelligence
Located in the Office of Strategic Initiatives & Analytics, the Junior Business Intelligence Analyst is both an advanced higher education data analyst and report author. The Analyst will be responsible for pulling, cleaning, and formatting large amounts of data from multiple sources for both regularly recurring and ad-hoc analyses. Using academic, financial, and socio-economic data, this position must demonstrate best practices in conducting studies to aid in institution-wide understanding and data informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
Data collection and cleaning (20 – 30%)
- Work with university clients to fully understand their data questions, problems, contexts, and hypotheses.
- Collect data from various sources including Banner, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Qualtrics, etc., using appropriate data definitions.
- Develop, document, and implement processes where needed for decision analysis.
Report writing, data analysis, and predictive modeling (40 – 60%)
- Write and interpret ad-hoc and recurring reports and analyses using multiple internal and external data sources.
- Create thorough analysis of various client questions, problems, or hypotheses.
- Appropriate use of descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Create custom analyses, perform research, analyze survey data, etc., as needed to address university opportunities and challenges.
- Discover, design, develop, and deploy predictive analytic models
- Develop machine learning tools to support and assess student and employee experiences, engagement, and success
Other duties as assigned (10 – 20%)
- Work diplomatically with other teams, such as Information Technology Services, Institutional Research, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Banner stakeholders, and others to ensure validity and integrity of data.
- Work with other university staff, including the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, to improve data collection efforts, processes, documentation, and report archiving.
- If assigned, serve on university committees and implementation teams in support of university initiatives.
This position works within a team that responds to requests from many university stakeholders. For that reason, the demands of the position and areas of focus will be fluid. Over the course of a year, these percentages are anticipated, but cannot be guaranteed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in statistical science, data science, or related quantitative analytical field (computer science, computer information systems, mathematics, etc.) or years’ experience as equivalent
- Experience with Tableau, Power BI, WebBI, or other similar software
- Experience with SPSS, R, or another similar statistical program
- Experience with SQL and relational databases
- Experience with data reconciliation and data integrity validation
- At least two years of professional experience working with large files of complex data: pulling, joining, and cleaning data, creating variables and calculations, and formatting large amounts of data
- Intermediate or higher proficiency with Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in statistical science, data science, or related quantitative analytical field (computer science, computer information systems, mathematics, etc.) or years’ experience as equivalent
- Experience working in higher education or similar professional environment
- Experience interpreting data and presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience with techniques in machine learning and other statistical testing
- Experience with survey techniques, program evaluation, and descriptive and inferential statistical analysis
- Experience conducting research and developing meaningful performance metrics
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment
Schedule Information
Full-time, 40 hours per week
Exempt
Days of the Week: Mon – Fri
Evenings and Weekend Work: As needed
Schedule: This is a remote position with an option to work in person
Travel: Rarely
Salary for Announcement
Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $49,900-$70,000.
Hours/Type Subject to negotiation and approval.
