Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Director of Commercial, this will be a key member of the Commercial Sales Team driving our Strategic Account sales strategy and developing plans to achieve profitable growth and market share. The Strategic Account Manager will work with the Sr. Director, Commercial to coordinate strategic account sales activities with the Inside Commercial team and personally manage assigned accounts. Sales are to larger accounts who may be regional, multi-regional and/or national in scope where the selling process includes prospecting, bidding, and servicing a range of account types typically requiring customized solutions to meet their purchasing requirements. Additionally, this position develops and maintains key relationships with customers and suppliers and is a key source of industry intelligence.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Minimum five years of sales and/or sales management experience working with national, major accounts with long project life cycles
- Minimum personal sales accountability of $5 million for five years or more
- Experience with product management, marketing and customer service is required
- Experience in flooring strongly preferred
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft applications is required;
- Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint
- Experience in the commercial sales environment a must
- Experience in Salesforce or other CRM use is a must
- Experience required in RFPs, commercial job bids, and general construction sales
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving
- Must be detail-oriented and highly organized
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
Essential Functions
- Develops the company’s strategic accounts sales strategy and integrates it with the company’s overall commercial strategy
- Develops and achieves sales, margin and expense budgets and provides sales forecasts as needed
- Helps direct supplier, product, marketing, and operations decisions with respect to strategic accounts to include custom offerings for accounts including private label programs as needed
- Enforces price & margin direction/policies as directed by the Senior Director
- Handles the strategic accounts assigned to him/her with responsibility for retaining and increasing sales
- Prospects to find new accounts within his/her own assigned account base
- Engages in key account negotiations when necessary
- Provides ongoing market, customer, and competitive feedback to the company
- Maintains personal relationships with all key accounts and sets up and participates in major customer events.
- Submit proposals and responses to RFQs and RFPs issued by prospective customers after obtaining pricing and specifications approval from management, as appropriate
- Stay current on merchandise training, new products and product lines
- Participate in trade associations, trade shows and assists in other promotional efforts
- Analyze local market to identify market opportunities, prospective companies and associated buyers
- Follow-up on referrals and self-generated leads to identify buyer influences and any timing issues
- Strives to achieve goals for new commercial customers
- Perform additional functions, duties and specific tasks of a similar nature and scope as necessary in order to achieve assigned business objectives
Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)
This position is salaried, knowing it may include hours which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week
Able and willing to travel 40% of the time
- This position requires the ability to office at home and remote work discipline
Physical/Sensory Requirements
Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
