Responsibilities

The Office of Space Weather Observations (SWO) under NESDIS is responsible for advancing space weather observational capabilities to meet NOAA programmatic needs. NOAA's Space Weather Next (SWX) program maintains and extends space weather observations from various vantage points, selected to most efficiently provide comprehensive knowledge of the Sun and the near-Earth space environment needed to protect our technological infrastructure.

The Space Weather Ground Services (SWGS) is responsible for comprehensive ground services for all SWX projects, ensuring successful implementation and operation of observing assets and ensuring the continuity of space weather measurements made by SWFO-L1 and the GOES-R series satellites.

The SWGS Mission Operations Services (MOS) program must provide a full mission satellite command and control solution to support the L1 Series with two new independently launched observatories.

Peraton is seeking to hire a Senior Systems Engineer to join this new SWGS-MOS program.

  • This position is contingent on contract award.**

Responsibilities:

  • Support system level engineering development to include software integration and test (I&T) activities for Satellite Ground Station Command and Control applications ensuring system compatibility to meet program technical, schedule and cost objectives. This includes developing and managing requirements supporting the integration of COTS-based systems and custom software, from the system design phase through development, documentation, installation, and commissioning of the completed system.
  • Generate segment and component level requirements to include verification approaches in all phases of development.
  • Familiar with Systems Engineering processes.
  • Generate test procedures for the validation and verification of software components to analyze requirements for integration and/or testability issues.
  • Support Requirements readiness reviews, formal system verification of the system requirements and final test reports.
  • Organize, execute, and report on software testing.
  • Recognize and adopt best practices in documentation, testing and efficient use of resources.
  • Develop, review and execute component as well as segment level Test Engineering Duties.
  • Have a detailed understanding of the Requirements Life-cycle.
  • Utilize JIRA in an Agile development environment.
  • Leveraging Models Based Systems Engineering tools to evolve the deployed baseline.
  • Support development and maintenance of automated testing.

Qualifications

  • Active Public Trust clearance
  • 8+ years with BS/BA, Min 6 years with MS/MA, Min 3 years with PhD
  • BS/BA in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, or related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Extensive experience with Windows OS and Microsoft Office products
  • Willing to learn new things (employing CAMEO EA in the future)
  • Experience with Systems Engineering Tools (e.g., Rational DOORS, Visio and/or CAMEO.
  • Familiar with the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira, Insight, Confluence, Risk Register, Crucible, Bitbucket, Git, etc.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
