About the Position:
As our litigation pro you will be responsible for managing defense of our policyholders with defense counsel at your side. These are challenging cases with complex moving parts. The utilization of your organizational skill set at its very best. You will be working with other carriers and their attorneys; also working on agreements for resolution of shared time on risk allegations against our shared policyholders. You will never be on an island with these claims but always surrounded by a team that can help. You will attend mediations (virtually), participate in Settlement Days, strive to identify cases for early settlement.
When you’re not “litigating” you may be asked to get involved in various projects that support our business operations up to and including quality management of claims service providers, onboarding of innovative claims technology, and the development of our Claims Best Practices.
*This position is a 100% remote U.S. based opportunity that can be based in one of the following states: AL, AZ, DE, FL, GA, KY, MA, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.
*Some travel for day-to-day work, team meetings, and training will be required.
Key Responsibilities: (What you'll be asked to do)
- Evaluation of field investigations relating to the property at issue.
- Work with multiple attorneys, including an understanding of the coverage aspects of the carrier versus your defense of the insured.
- Direct defense attorneys throughout the litigation process in accordance with our organizational best practices.
- Review and take necessary action on reports/forms, utilizing litigation software applications.
- Prepare for and attend mediations and hearings as needed.
- Establish accurate legal budgets with defense counsel.
- Maintain an effective diary/task system and document claim file activities with established procedures. (Critical)
The Successful Candidate: (what we're looking for)
- You have a solid technical background in basic claims and liability responsibilities.
- You are well-versed in the and outs of insurance contracts, and legal procedures or have the capacity to learn these quickly.
- You have excellent verbal and written client facing and internal communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and an uncanny ability to skillfully juggle a variety of tasks at once.
Some Requirements:
- 5+ years of previous experience as a litigation adjuster.
- You are currently licensed or eligible for licensing as an adjuster in the states of: TX, FL, CA, NY, and/or IL (we can help with your licensing fees).
- You come to us with a desire to learn, experience with multi-tasking, the ability to learn and follow claim structure, manage attorneys with the requirements in their defense of the insured.
- Understand basic legal strategies in conjunction with venue limitations.
- Able to work hours to meet California mediations later in the day.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
Computer Skills:
- Must be proficient with MS Office and other internal insurance-related programs, systems or applications. You must be good with technology and able to pick up on internal systems and programs quickly.
- Ability to communicate effectively using programs such as Slack & MS Teams. You are comfortable sharing screens and video chatting.
