The Role

We are seeking a seasoned Managing Editor to join Creative Labs. The ideal candidate is an expert on messaging, tech, media and editorial operations. This person will have a demonstrable passion for messaging for entertainment, an understanding of global media trends and thrive on bold brand thinking.
Together with other regional Managing Editors, you will oversee clear, engaging and accurate copy about merchandising content such as shows, movies, and games within creative experimentation. You’ll partner with creative strategy and development partners, merchandising,engineering, writers and editors (both internal and external), localization, and content design.
As Managing Editor, it is your job to ensure that Creative Labs initiatives are adequately resourced with what they need; you’ll help our team find the right writers and editors for their projects and give context to our creative technology team as they provide use cases for our tools to improve workflows. While this is not a people manager role, previous management experience will set you up for success.
The Team:
As Creative Labs, we sit within the product org at Netflix focused on enhancing promotional creative that appears on the Netflix platform. We exist to contribute innovative creative & tech expertise to help our internal partners make leaps forward using promotional creative. We are not a product UI team, but develop solutions that can help evolve the product promotional experience and creative approaches. Each year, we identify specific areas of focus related to product evolutions, member needs, or innovative opportunities. We draw upon outside inspiration, member research, and our institutional knowledge to develop insight informed promotional approaches and creative prototypes that are used by the broader organization as best-practice, inspirational, impactful guides.
We are creative directors, strategists, technologists, and artists who partner with different teams and organizations across the company to reimagine promotional assets through rigorous off-service and on-service testing.
What Will Help You Succeed
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills. You must have multiple examples of published work and/or projects
Deep content and cultural knowledge about media, including current trends in entertainment. Simply put, you’re a superfan who keeps up with film and TV — and you can help Netflix members around the globe get excited about our titles
Expertise in the world of messaging and leading writing teams to identify the right kind of story to tell and the right format to tell it in for our members
Experience managing writing teams. Our source copy is written in English, so you must have the professional authority to enforce standards among a team of high-performing global writers
Experience with building and managing outsourced/external fulfillment models
Understand that different types of content should have copy tailored to their respective tones and are able to work collaboratively to evolve existing voice and tone guidelines
Experience working across multiple business areas as you integrate creative strategies that uplevel promotional creative
Program management experience. You must be comfortable driving projects with multiple workstreams, creating thorough documentation, and communicating with teams across functions and regions
Expertise in product development, creative development and innovation. We’re looking for someone who is constantly looking for ways to improve the member experience through research, experimentation and testing.
The ability to understand and simplify complex technical concepts. This role will interact with technical and creative teams and needs to communicate effectively with both.
You are expected to:
Be a systems thinker even if the output does not call for creative system work
Be a self-starter and problem solver who has the ability to spearhead, lead, and manage a creative project
Establish the creative bar that partner teams use for asset quality and standards during all stages of technical builds, including editorial/functional quality assurance, delivery for localization and future scaling needs
Collaborate with Creative Labs Creative Strategists, Creative Labs Creative Development, Merchandising Strategists, Brand Managers, Product Managers, Consumer Insights Team, Internal Regional Creatives, XD team and Production as well as cross-functional and external partners to create and craft creatively excellent work for Netflix
(As necessary) present work and context set with senior leadership and cross-functional partners
Exhibit strong leadership, emotional intelligence, diplomacy and business acumen in order to bring multiple departments together to accomplish a complex objectives
Communicate honestly and regularly regarding freelance/vendor/contract talent with our Production Planning team

Contribute towards maintaining a high caliber of partnership that is consistent across the team so partners know what to expect when working with Creative Labs.

Embrace and implement emerging technologies to support creative excellence
Align on scope and resource planning with your Creative Strategy, Creative Development and Production Planning partners
Have no hesitation in managing difficult conversations with cross-functional partners while maintaining a collaborative dynamic
Work collaborative to craft and maintain thoughtful and highly articulate project-relevant documentation (such as creative proposals) and contribute to cross-functional socialization and outlines for scaling beyond the innovation phase.
Participate in and bring updates to project meetings and timelines related to the development of copy
Clearly set expectations at every level while strategizing internal needs, workflows and staff to ensure delivery of the best work possible
Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Coda, Monday.com, Airtable, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and frame.io
Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $70,000 - $370,000.
