For our office in Nootdorp, the Netherlands, we're seeking a talented research engineer to help our team to revolutionize geophysical and geotechnical testing. By using innovative acoustic imaging techniques we aim to improve and optimize in-situ marine geotechnics, a field in which Fugro is the world leader. 

As our new Geoscience Research Engineer you will play a key role in revolutionising geotechnical investigation techniques. You will be part of a diverse team where creative ideas and initiatives are encouraged. The TechCentre in Nootdorp is the main hub for innovation and hard- and software development at Fugro, hosting multiple expert teams working at the cutting edge of technology.

The role 

  • You develop and implement advanced acoustic imaging techniques for geophysical and geotechnical applications, using both p- and s- waves in the ground and/or sea bottom; 

  • You collect data from experiments and simulations, conduct analysis and maintain accurate records of research activities;

  • You create research reports, papers, and presentations for internal and external dissemination; 

  • You ensure alignment with project planning and goals;

  • You work closely with other scientist and engineers and business stakeholders;

  • You stay updated with the latest advancements in academic research in this field.  

Your track record:  

  • You have an MSc or PhD in Geophysics, Seismic Imaging or Medical Imaging, Acoustic NDT or similar; 

  • You have a strong background in mathematics, (Geo)Physics and/or Geotechnics; 

  • You have proficiency in programming languages as Python, Julia or Matlab; 

  • It is considered an advantage if you are familiar with COMSOL or any equivalent Multiphysics simulation software; 

  • You have the ability to work collaboratively in a team, but also independently; 

  • You have strong communication skills to interact with technical stakeholders;

  • Two years or more of industry experience is considered a plus.
