A quick run-down of the job
We are seeking a VP of Engineering who will play a pivotal role in driving cross-team R&D projects, overseeing MVPs and POCs, and solving large-scale technical challenges within our infrastructure. You will be responsible for addressing our tech debt by spearheading key refactoring projects (e.g., optimizing routing for cross-ecosystem support) and leading the design and implementation of critical tools (e.g., a secure smart contract deployment toolchain). In addition, you will oversee the outsourcing process for MVPs and POCs to ensure timely and effective execution.
This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise across various domains, and a passion for innovation. You will collaborate with engineering leads, product teams, and leadership to ensure alignment on strategy and execution. You will report directly to the CTO.

What you’ll do
Lead cross-team R&D projects aimed at creating innovative solutions, from MVPs to full-scale product implementations
Oversee the outsourcing process of MVPs and POCs to ensure quality and efficiency
Identify and solve large-scale infrastructure problems across the company, focusing on scalability, security, and performance
Take charge of strategic initiatives to reduce technical debt, such as refactoring systems for cross-ecosystem support and improving overall architecture
Drive the design and implementation of tools for secure, efficient smart contract deployments
Collaborate with engineering, product, and leadership teams to ensure alignment with long-term company goals
Oversee the technical planning, execution, and delivery of projects, ensuring quality and efficiency at every stage
Be an advocate for engineering best practices, including code reviews, CI/CD processes, and security
Stay up-to-date with the latest in blockchain technology and help LI.FI adopt cutting-edge innovations
What makes a good candidate
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on blockchain or distributed systems
Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams through complex projects (R&D, MVPs, and POCs)
Ability to make ‘make or buy’ decisions confidently, balancing in-house and outsourced development to meet project goals
Proficiency in TypeScript and a second, lower-level language like Rust or Go
At least 3 years of production experience in crypto
Prior experience in a DeFi or Web3 company
Expertise in architecting scalable systems and solving large-scale infrastructure challenges
Strong background in smart contract development and blockchain technology, including secure deployment practices
Hands-on experience with managing tech debt and implementing system-wide refactoring plans
Experience working with EVM and non-EVM ecosystems (e.g., Solana, Cosmos)
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams and leadership
Experience with agile development practices and driving engineering excellence
