Job description

Vannevar Labs builds next generation defense software for the public servants keeping our country safe.  As a team, we exist because we believe in public service, and we think that our democracy and government improve only if we put serious, collective effort into improving them, including the technology our government uses.

This mission has become urgent. Ukraine is engaged in a war for survival with Russia. China regularly flies nuclear-capable bombers into Taiwan and Japan’s airspace. The US and our allies are fighting a war of deterrence with woefully outdated technology. We build software to support these missions, including providing battlefield information to allies, identifying malign activity, and helping the US deter and deescalate conflict.

We are a profitable growth startup with some of the best defense investors in the world, including General Catalyst, DFJ Growth, Point72, and enterprise tech investors Costanoa and Felicis.

About the role
We are looking for a Data Specialist to join Vannevar’s Mission team where you will work cross functionally with Mission and the Engineering Teams to support a critical customer. You will use your expertise in open-source intelligence to drive engineering priorities and ensure mission success with Vannevar’s most critical customers.
What You'll Do
  • Bridge the gap between our Mission and Engineering Teams to ensure the most impactful, mission relevant data is being delivered to our customers
  • Use your OSINT expertise to develop Vannevar’s ongoing data collection strategy and identify new sources of data to drive successful mission outcomes for customers
  • Explore and deliver new data collection strategies and methods to achieve customer mission objectives and to improve our ongoing operations
  • Assist Mission teams with time sensitive and critical projects to support exercises around the world
  • Set data collection strategies to centered on user needs, gaps, and friction points
Qualification
  • 4+ years experience in OSINT research or 4+ years of military/government intelligence analysis work that includes 1+ year of OSINT research. If you did this work as an independent, please be prepared to provide reference projects.
  • Deep understanding of geopolitical trends and ongoing world events
  • Demonstrated ability to manage operations with multiple stakeholders and implement significant improvements to operational processes
  • Familiarity with web technologies and popular scripting languages
  • Domain experience in media/social media network analysis, cybersecurity, and darkweb networks is preferred
  • Strong communication skills required to effectively communicate relevant OSINT research findings for Mission, Engineering, and customers
  • Clearance (SECRET) is a plus
