Job description

Vannevar Labs builds next generation defense software for the public servants keeping our country safe.  As a team, we exist because we believe in public service, and we think that our democracy and government improve only if we put serious, collective effort into improving them, including the technology our government uses.

This mission has become urgent. Ukraine is engaged in a war for survival with Russia. China regularly flies nuclear-capable bombers into Taiwan and Japan’s airspace. The US and our allies are fighting a war of deterrence with woefully outdated technology. We build software to support these missions, including providing battlefield information to allies, identifying malign activity, and helping the US deter and deescalate conflict.

We are a profitable growth startup with some of the best defense investors in the world, including General Catalyst, DFJ Growth, Point72, and enterprise tech investors Costanoa and Felicis.

About The Role
Vannevar Labs is expanding from one product (Decrypt) to an ecosystem of products. One of these products supports information operations and electronic warfare. In the short-term, you will lead intelligence collection of the dark web sources relevant to our customer's missions. You will interface with third-party data vendors to compliment first-party collection and own the data collection and ingest process. In the long term, you'll drive the technical vision for cybersecurity as we expand our companies footprint into cyber domain operations.
What You'll Do
  • Aid in the monitoring, discovery and collection of data from various sources
  • Conduct technical security research on topics such as OSINT techniques and browser fingerprinting
  • Aid in the development of methodologies for managing attribution such as the development and maintenance of personas in non-standard environments
  • Assist with research into process automation workflows
  • Collaborate side-by-side with our engineers, leveraging your communication skills
  • Assist with bespoke research as necessary
  • Assist with the development and documentation of new process to support the team
  • Assist with the reverse-engineering and analysis of new data sources
What we look for
  • Experience conducting OSINT investigations of varying degrees of complexity
  • Experience working with dark web data
  • Meticulous and paranoid about digital identity tracking
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of cybersecurity and operational security
  • Strong ethics for handling of sensitive data and adherence to data privacy rules and compliance standards
  • Excellent communication, teamwork skills, and project ownership
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access U.S. only data systems
Nice to haves
  • Experience supporting cyber investigations in various functions
  • Experience working in a cloud environment
  • Understanding of OS fundamentals
  • Reverse Engineering Experience
  • Experience with a broad variety of technologies and platforms
  • Experience with a high-level programming language such as Python, Node.js, Java, Ruby or similar
