Job Overview

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a talented and passionate Staff Software Engineer (Platform, Reliability, Golang) to join our team. you will work across systems and software engineering to build, monitor/observe, and scale internal and external systems. You will monitor production issues and make suggestions for continuous improvement. You will play an integral role in designing and maintaining systems at scale. We leverage Agile Scrum methodologies to deliver software applications revolutionizing the business of insurance.

New developers on our team learn our development tools, standards, and processes to contribute within an Agile Scrum team. We deliver value for customers and our industry by maintaining and developing innovative solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with a dynamic team to build web services, APIs, and integrations to enhance the platform
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering partners in system design, management, capacity planning, and continued improvement of all systems
  • Monitoring the production issues
  • Collaborate with Development teams on best practices, infrastructure setup, and planning activities with a focus on stability, performance, reliability, and scale
  • Write clean, extensible code, and improve the architecture, frameworks, and toolkits used to build and maintain a stable technology stack
  • Mentor engineering teams and evangelize reliability best practices
  • Maintain and improve our CI/CD pipelines
  • P articipate in incident response and blameless postmortems
  • D esign and implement high-quality technical solutions to provide business value, utilizing object-oriented principles, design patterns, and testing practices
  • C ollaborate with other developers to assist with the implementation of aspects you or your team develop
  • D esign user-based interactions through effective front-end architecture
  • D esign and implement RESTful services and APIs
  • I ntegrate with 3 rd party APIs
  • C ollaborate with team members by proactively sharing updates, identifying blockers, and obtaining feedback to continuously improve

What You’ll Need To Succeed

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can work 100% remotely, or from an Applied Systems office

Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • Experience with at least one of the following programming languages or similar: Golang (Go) or C#
  • Ability to problem solve, proven track record of problem-solving in a dynamic mission-critical environment
  • Previous production support experience with an architectural background
  • Experience with GCP, AWS, and/or other Cloud Services
  • C I/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI/CD
  • C ontainerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with Event-driven architectures and asynchronous software development
  • E xperience with SQL database programming
  • P roblem-solving skills with excellent logical reasoning and a solutions orientation
  • P assion for programming in a team-oriented environment
  • F amiliarity with Agile development methodologies
  • E ducation in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Additionally, you may have:

  • Experience working with Apigee
  • Database background (PostgreSQL)
  • Open to Java and C# development experience
  • Experience working with a mid-sized company that is scaling or a start-up that has scaled
