Job Description:

The Field Supplier Quality Engineer (FSQE) is the primary quality interface between Raytheon and the external supply base. The FSQE provides both communication of requirements and performance feedback to the supplier as well as being a conduit for Quality information back to internal functions within RTN. The SQE’s role includes execution of Source Inspections, Supplier Assessments, Supplier Engagements, Special Process Management, Contract Review/Requirement Flowdowns, and First Article Validation. They facilitate problem resolution with a strong RCCA background, meeting facilitation and continuous improvement activities using RTN SQ tools and APQP elements. In addition, the SQE is a key player in the management of Supplier’s performance and development.  The SQE represents RTN professionally and supports Raytheon Technologies Vision, Values, Strategy and Goals in the supply base.

Location Information:

This position entails assignment as a Principal Field Supplier Quality Engineer in the LA region of the US and is hybrid. Visits to local Supplier facilities will be required and will require a home office be maintained. Candidate is required to live in or immediately adjacent to Los Angeles, CA and within 50 miles of a major international airport.  Domestic travel is predominately driving within a 50-300 mile radius with some flying.  Travel, which includes day trips and some overnight, is expected 60% of the time. 

Travel to support suppliers in the western states (CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ, UT, ID,MT, etc.) is required as needed.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Planning and performing in-process and final source inspection of product at suppliers in accordance with applicable drawing and purchase order requirements
  • Interpreting purchase order quality notes and quality requirements to ensure subcontractor/supplier understanding
  • Ensuring flow down of Product requirements both internally and to sub-tier suppliers and ensuring compliance with quality requirements
  • Assessing subcontractor/supplier quality capabilities throughout the program life cycle to achieve full program objectives
  • Identifying supplier risk and systemic performance issues ensuring root-cause analysis and corrective solutions are identified and implemented with closure plans
  • Driving continuous product / process improvements using statistical / analytical improvement tools such as Six Sigma and lean methodologies
  • Working with other Quality functions and Cross Business Teams (CBTs), to affect rapid closure of issues utilizing analytical capabilities and communications skills
  • Ensuring Subcontract Data Requirements List deliverables are met
  • Supports First Article Verification and Source Inspection

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years experience in Quality or Supplier Management and previous experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience utilizing one of the following aerospace or commercial equivalent Preventative tools – APQP, PPAP, SPC, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, etc.
  • Source inspection experience with some of the following: Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), Printed Wire Board (PWB), Wire/Cable, Electrical Items, Assemblies, Castings and Machining
  • Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action processes - RCCA
  • Previous experience with commercial and/or aerospace / defense regulations and standards or a commercial equivalent - i.e. AS9100, AS9102, ISO-9000, AS9145
  • Experience with hardware inspection techniques
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Six Sigma, Lean and / or American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certification (CQE, CQM/OE, CSQE, CQA, CRE, etc.)
  • MS Engineering / Technical or MBA
  • Proven successes in building and maintaining relationships with multiple suppliers / customers
  • Experience in DoD product and process oversight including requirements, build, integration, test and delivery
  • Experience working remotely
  • General Statistical Process Control knowledge, including implementation
  • General knowledge of aerospace / defense products and systems technologies
  • General knowledge of industry technical standards (such as ANSI, CMMI, ASTM, etc.)
  • Strong technical engineer with excellent communication skills that exhibits presence and influence and self-managed technical contributor

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
