About the role
We’re looking for an Accounting Specialist, Finance & Group Reinsurance to join our growing team!
The mandate of Group Reinsurance is to ensure consistency and application of the best reinsurance practices amongst the Group. Our team provides recommendations to ensure strong internal controls, and we provide accounting and financial analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of our financial results. Our candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting Group Reinsurance activities.
In addition, our candidate will play an active role in the transformation of the reinsurance function while working on a project roadmap to support alignment of our different reinsurance groups.
What you’ll do here:
- Make recommendations to ensure best reinsurance practices are applied in different regions, but mainly to ensure consistency and alignment on reinsurance practices
- As a key stakeholder, actively participate in several strategic project/initiatives impacting reinsurance from both a systems and process perspective, such as IT implementations, process enhancements and acquisition integrations
- Support the preparation of the quarterly Group Reinsurance Operation and Control Committee
- Review, analyze and provide recommendations for processes and projects to increase the efficiency and availability of Group Reinsurance data for analysis and monthly reporting to ensure consistencies in key reporting used by management
- Participate in the consolidation process during the closure period for issues related to Group Reinsurance, and participate and influence the outcome of special projects impacting intercompany reinsurance workstream
- Document and implement new accounting standards and ensure proper application of the current standards
- Maintain, document, recommend and improve processes to keep a robust control environment
- Collaborate with external and internal auditors, as well as risk and compliance functions for activities under your responsibility
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements
- Participate in special business transactions which include working with Legal, Finance and other business partners
- Provide ad-hoc support and reinsurance analysis to support management
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or any combination of equivalent education and experience
- CPA designation (Certified Public Accountant) required
- 3 to 5 years experience in accounting, IFRS accounting standards or finance related positions
- Experience with insurance/reinsurance – a strong asset
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated experience in fast learning environments requiring adaptability to change
- Ability to interact with various people at all levels of the organization, including management and some external stakeholders
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to persuade, influence and motivate people from a wide variety of functional backgrounds
- For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required due to the need to interact on a regular basis with English speaking colleagues across the country
