 Position Overview

The Operations Research Analyst will be responsible for applying advanced analytical methods to help solve complex problems and make data-driven decisions within the Defense Travel Management Office (DTMO). This role requires expertise in operations research techniques, cost-benefit analysis, and decision support tools. The Operations Research Analyst will work closely with stakeholders to develop models, conduct studies, and provide actionable insights that support the DTMO's mission and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analytical Modeling: Develop and implement mathematical models and simulations to analyze complex systems and processes. Use optimization, statistical, and heuristic techniques to provide decision support.
  • Cost-Benefit Analysis: Conduct cost-benefit analyses to evaluate the financial and operational impact of various decisions and strategies. Provide recommendations based on quantitative analysis.
  • Decision Support: Develop decision support tools and frameworks to assist stakeholders in making informed decisions. Ensure that tools are user-friendly and aligned with stakeholder needs.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data from various sources to support analytical studies. Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and relevance in all analyses.
  • Report Development: Prepare and present detailed reports on analytical findings, including visualizations, charts, and graphs. Communicate complex analytical results in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Risk Analysis: Identify and assess risks associated with different courses of action. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address potential issues.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders to understand their analytical needs and requirements. Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support strategic initiatives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest advancements in operations research and analytical techniques. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance analytical capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. 
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations research, cost-benefit analysis, and decision support. Experience with government contracting and defense projects is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in operations research methods, statistical analysis, and optimization techniques
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Experience with analytical software and tools (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python, Excel)
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Ability to develop detailed reports and visualizations
    • Knowledge of risk analysis and mitigation techniques
    • Familiarity with data collection and data management principles
