SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Scientific Education and Training Manager plays an integral role in supporting Product Development, Medical Affairs, and in particular, the MSL team. This employee, under the guidance of Scientific Education and Training Mgmt, provides strategic operational and scientific support of key initiatives to ensure their successful implementation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Assist with the assessment of educational needs based on life-cycle management and disease area requirements
- Drive the development and implementation of educational initiatives in a manner consistent with best practices and applicable law, regulations, and relevant SOPs.
- Serve as a key clinical/scientific resource to the field medical team and internal colleagues by providing ongoing product and disease state education via live training or WebEx
- Provide training support to Product Development through support of annual Development Day as well as generation of scientific education material and functional training tools
- Oversee field medical affairs (FMA) information technology and training resources, including websites and CRM software (Scoop, BOX, Delphire, Survey Monkey)
- Provide strategic and operational support to the MSL team through field insight analysis and MSL activity analysis
- Regularly assess the operational needs of FMAs and drive the implementation and execution of operational projects, soliciting vendor proposals as needed.
- In collaboration with internal meeting planner, assist with coordination of various Medical Affairs meeting planning and logistics
- Assist with creation of strategy and aligned processes in support of MSL activities (i.e., proactive and reactive field initiatives) in collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Work effectively with MSLs and management at all levels throughout the Exelixis organization; interact with high level clients as well as managed care organizations
- Assist in the design and implementation of policies and procedures to drive appropriate conduct as well as meeting Medical Affairs objectives
- Serve as a mentor and trainer for the MSL team
Supervisory Responsibilities:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education/Experience:
- Master’s level oncology PA or NP with active progress towards completion of doctorate degree preferred and a minimum of 7 years of related experience; or,
- Accredited doctorate degree in a basic-science or life-science discipline (Pharm.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., D.N.P., or D.O.) and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or,
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry preferred
- A minimum of 2 years as an MSL in therapeutic oncology preferred
Knowledge/Skills:
- Strong teaching skills
- Established track record of effective oral presentations
- Training experience a plus
- Expertise in critically evaluating the appropriate scientific literature
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge of FDA compliance and regulatory requirements
- Strong analytical capabilities
- Skilled in Excel and Power Point; ability to grasp new applications with minimal direction
- Possess exceptional communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholder
- Ability to travel locally and regionally combined
Working Conditions:
Travel up to 50% weekly as well as nationally for major medical/scientific and company meetings

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $144,000 - $184,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.
