Job Overview

We invite you to become a vital part of an innovative frontrunner in the renewable energy landscape, dedicated to transformative utility-scale energy storage initiatives. With robust backing from private equity, our organization has successfully amassed over 9GW of projects and is poised for further growth and industry influence.

As a Renewables Real Estate Attorney, you will take the lead on legal matters pertaining to renewables origination, land acquisition, and development transactions. Your collaborative efforts with cross-functional teams—including Project Development, Finance, EPC, O&M, and Transmission & Interconnection—will be essential to the successful execution of legal agreements, thereby contributing to sustainable infrastructure advancements for the energy grid.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a subject matter expert in lease negotiations, land options, purchase agreements, easements, and related site control agreements for utility-scale renewable projects (solar, wind, and energy storage).
  • Draft, amend, and negotiate all legal land agreements associated with renewable projects.
  • Assist the Real Estate team with high-level title, survey, and mineral due diligence processes, including research on land use requirements.
  • Supervise financial closings of renewable land development purchase and lease transactions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including outside counsel, throughout the land acquisition process and associated project financing legal initiatives.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of legal experience in large infrastructure land development real estate transactions, ideally within the utility-scale renewables sector; experience at a recognized law firm is highly desirable.
  • Strong insight into land title issues, mineral rights, and the project development permitting process.
  • Proven ability in drafting and reviewing real estate documents, including purchase/sale agreements, lease terms, and easements.
  • Solid experience in land negotiations and commercial real estate transactions.
  • Expertise in site leases, purchase options, and related financial closing activities.
  • Familiarity with the utility-scale renewables development process, including interconnection, permitting, and PPA negotiations, is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • At least 3 years of experience in legal matters related to substantial infrastructure land development in the utility-scale renewables sector.
