Job description

VicRoads RLS, founded in August 2022 by a consortium of Aware Super, Australian Retirement Trust, Macquarie Asset Management, and the Victorian State Government, operates under a long term concession deed issued by the State Government. About the Opportunity:

The Front-End Development Lead is responsible for overseeing and guiding front-end development efforts for both mobile and web applications. This role combines hands-on development, technical leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the delivery of top-tier front-end solutions. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in modern front-end frameworks.

Working closely with Solution Architects, UI/UX designers, and back-end developers, the Front-End Development Lead ensures that front-end components are performant, secure, and aligned with overall business and technical objectives.

Lead Front-End Engineering for Web and Mobile: Oversee development of user interfaces for web and mobile platforms using modern frameworks like React, Angular, Vue.js, Svelte, React Native, and Flutter.
Hands-on Development: Actively design and develop front-end code, ensuring high performance, scalability, and adherence to coding standards.
Performance Optimization: Implement techniques like lazy loading, tree shaking, and code splitting to optimize performance for fast, efficient applications.
Component-Based Architecture: Ensure reusable, maintainable, and modular components across projects, promoting consistent design and development patterns.
Accessibility and Security Compliance: Ensure applications meet WCAG standards for accessibility and implement security best practices to protect against vulnerabilities (e.g., XSS, CSRF).
Collaboration and Mentorship: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (back-end developers, UX/UI designers) and mentor junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and excellence.


About you 

An ideal candidate will have expertise in modern front-end frameworks like React, Angular, Vue.js, Svelte, React Native, and Flutter, enabling the development of responsive, mobile-first, and scalable web and mobile applications. They will demonstrate strong proficiency in UI/UX and performance optimization, using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and performance-enhancing tools. A deep understanding of component architecture and reusability is essential, with proven experience in designing reusable components that ensure consistency across applications.

The candidate must also have a strong grasp of security and accessibility best practices, including techniques to prevent XSS and CSRF attacks and compliance with WCAG standards. Collaboration and communication skills are key, as the role involves working closely with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders, while also mentoring junior developers. Additionally, the candidate should be experienced with automation and testing frameworks like Jest, Cypress, and React Testing Library to ensure code reliability and maintainability.

  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and manage FED teams, providing direction, mentorship, and support to team members
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in both traditional and event-driven integration contexts
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
