The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer III to join our Aerospace Design Group in Merritt Island, Florida!
As an associate in RS&H’s Aerospace and Equipment Group, the qualified candidate will work with other RS&H engineers and architects for the design of facilities, infrastructure, and equipment for military, aerospace, and energy projects. Duties will consist of calculations, analyses, creation of system designs, and development of construction documents (drawings and specifications) for launch pads, launch vehicle processing facilities, ground support equipment, military facilities, and large industrial equipment. You will be an integral part of multi-discipline design teams and will coordinate your electrical systems designs with civil, structural, architectural, and mechanical disciplines. Excitement for supporting space exploration is required.
Responsibilities:
- Design electrical control, monitoring and communication systems including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and variable frequency drives.
- Design of and selecting power and instrumentation components for electrical control, monitoring and communication systems for ground support equipment to meet a set of desired specifications.
- Design of and selecting components for DC power distribution systems including batteries, Photovoltaic, converters, circuit breakers/fuses, bus and wiring.
- Develop block diagrams, cable interconnect diagrams, ground integrated schematics, advance electrical schematics, bill of materials, wire running lists, and build-to-print assembly drawings of control/monitoring panels, Remote Input/Output (RIO) enclosures, Human Machine Interface (HMI) panels and control pendants.
- Design of and selecting components for cable harness assemblies.
- Advance knowledge of components and materials including material compatibility.
- Electrical engineering analysis such as sneak circuit, load flow, voltage drop, fault current, arc-flash, and thermal loading.
- Review project specifications to assure compliance with customer requirements and create training instructions for operation and testing, and O&M Manuals.
- The ability or willingness to learn how to perform the design of medium voltage and low voltage electrical power distribution systems, standby power generation and distribution systems, and building systems including grounding systems, lightning protection systems, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, VESDA systems, access control systems, CCTV systems, visual and audible warning systems, hazardous gas monitoring systems, and telecommunications/data systems is a plus.
- Cable tray fill and wire ampacity calculations, feeder and branch circuit sizing calculations, conduit fill, fault analyses, protective device coordination analyses, load flow (voltage drop) analyses; demand load analyses; and other such analyses.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or equivalent
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain Florida PE within one year
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD
- The ability to understand mechanical and fluids drawings is required.
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Due to the nature of client projects, US citizenship or permanent legal residency is required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of federal and military contraction Design Standards and requirements such as Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)
- Familiarity with Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) and SpecsIntact
- Knowledge of NFPA 70, 70E, 101, 497 and 780
- Working knowledge of Creo and Revit
- Ability to perform lighting and power calculations using computer-based software (AGI32) and SKM Power Tools for Windows
- Knowledge of hazardous location wiring methodologies following codes and standards is a plus.
