The Senior Software Engineer is a highly skilled and innovative professional. As a forward-thinking technologist, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge web applications that drive our business forward.

• Be a forward-thinking technologist who is continuously researching new approaches to problems and discussing them with others in a productive manner, in a community of practice setting
• Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to complex software challenges
• Ability to break down complex problems into manageable tasks for efficient resolution
• D esign, implement, and test web applications, with a focus on back end components
• Be actively involved in designing new application features and functionality, improving scalability and maintainability
• Provide support for complex and hybrid (cloud and on-premises) infrastructure environments
• Troubleshoot issues at the infrastructure and software levels; recommend fixes and upgrades to ensure proper operability
• Help support production applications and address issues to respect service level objectives (SLOs)
• Contribute to defining and implementing best practices, standards and procedures including quality and delivery methodologies
• Unit test code to ensure high coverage
• If there is need, participate in research and proof of concepts, ensuring the value is documented and socialized
• Ability to communicate effectively in a remote settings, both verbally and in writing
• Ensure timely escalation of issues that are blocking oneself or the team
• Share knowledge and lessons learned with others in the organization
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote work environment
• Strong self-management skills, including time management and task prioritization
• Meet with business stakeholders, user interface and experience designers, architects, and engineers as needed to obtain, analyze, and document requirements for new functionality or applications
• Provide technical guidance and support to team members, including: defining requirements, coaching, facilitating ongoing development and support of applications
• Provide and receive feedback through code reviews
• Keep up-to-date with tech industry trends to help improve Questrade products
• A ssist with the technical screening of new team members joining engineering teams.

Have experience in:

• Web: REST APIs written using Microservices in .NET Core and C#
• Data: MySQL, MSSQL, Document based DB, Redis Cache.
• Streaming: Google Pub/Sub, Kafka (or similar, ie. RabbitMQ)
• Infrastructure: Kubernetes, Docker, Docker Compose
• Version control: Git (experience with Gitlab or Github)
• Tools: Jira, Confluence
  
  
  

Additional Kudos If You…

• Have experience in a remote-first or remote-friendly company
• Have experience with Agile workflow
• Have experience with gRPC server and/or web streaming
• Have experience with Angular 2+ or any similar modern front end development
• Have experience with Node.js
• Have experience with CI/CD on Gitlab or Github actions
• Have experience with Google Cloud Platform products (e.g. Google Kubernetes Engine, Firestore, PubSub, etc.) or similar experience with other cloud providers
