Job Overview

A prestigious mortgage lending organization is actively seeking an accomplished Controller to become a vital member of its Finance team. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Finance and will play a crucial role in shaping the company’s financial strategies. The ideal candidate will possess a solid accounting background and demonstrate proficiency in managing corporate accounting functions. Experience in the mortgage banking sector is highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting closing cycles, ensuring precise financial reporting is delivered on time.
  • Lead the coordination of various accounting activities, encompassing Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, and Journal Entries.
  • Supervise the preparation of general ledger account reconciliations alongside bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure the effectiveness and quality of accounting procedures, processes, and systems.
  • Safeguard the integrity of accounting records and financial statements through robust internal controls.
  • Assess and respond to the impact of external accounting, reporting, and compliance events on the organization.
  • Facilitate the prompt execution of financial and tax audits.
  • Assist with compliance filings and informational reporting obligations.
  • Act as a representative of the Finance team in cross-departmental projects and initiatives.
  • Produce ad hoc financial reports and analyses, while managing special projects as required.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly in relation to financial services.
  • Expertise in analyzing financial data and composing reports, statements, and projections.
  • Proficiency with automated financial and accounting reporting systems and corresponding software.
  • Familiarity with lease management software is a plus.
  • Understanding of ASC 842 is beneficial.
  • Awareness of federal and state financial lending regulations.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Experience with AMB (Accounting for Mortgage Bankers) and/or Loan Vision is preferred.
  • Familiarity with FloQast and Concur is advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Superior communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, vendors, and colleagues in a constructive manner.
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and integrity.
  • Results-driven team player with exceptional time management and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
  • 5-7 years of substantial finance and accounting experience with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • Previous Controller experience within the mortgage industry is beneficial.
