Job description

IonQ is developing the world's most powerful full-stack quantum computer based on trapped-ion technology. We are pushing past the limits of classical physics and current supercomputing technology to unlock a new era of computing. We are looking for a Director of Federal Government Sales. As a member of the IonQ Sales Team, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build and commercialize the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Focus on US Federal and State Government Agencies, specifically DOE labs, or Department of Energy National Laboratories
  • Provide thought leadership and develop relationships pre RFI/RFQ that help focus the direction of upcoming bids. 
  • Design and recommend government sales programs set short and long-term government sales strategies
  • Develop new prospects and interact with existing customers to increase sales for IonQ’s products and services to government agencies
  • Maintain and nurture relationships with government customers
  • Establish, meet, and exceed sales goals
  • Collaborate with the IonQ Management Team

You’d be a good fit with: 

  • At a minimum, you must have a Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline
  • You must have at least 3 years of experience selling to National Labs / Government Agencies such as DARPA, DOD, DOE, etc.
  • You must know Government procurement processes. 

You’d be a great fit with: 

  • Introductory knowledge of Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Science
  • Government Security Clearance
  • Existing relationships within Federal Agencies
  • A working knowledge of the FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulations)
  • Proven track record of winning deals with Government Agencies
  • Knowledge of existing Federal funding opportunities for Quantum Computing


Location:  This role will be based in College Park, MD or remote for the right candidate. 


The approximate base salary range for this position is $143,410 to $198,913.

The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base pay, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component, as well as a range of benefit options found on our site at ionq.co/jobs.  Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland which is only a 15-minute metro ride from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
