The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a dedicated Project Manager Senior to participate in Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Fellowship Cohort 25-1 with USAA. The HOH Fellowship Program builds an extraordinary experience for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses that increase competitiveness and improve opportunities to find meaningful employment by providing development, skills, and exposure to corporate working environment and private sector business operations. HOH Fellowship Programs are best-in-class workforce development programs that are cohort based and twelve weeks in duration.


As a participant in the Military Fellowship Program, we understand that in most cases Fellows are ending their active service commitments and actively relocating. Therefore, while participating in the Fellowship program, Fellows are authorized to work remotely.


Facilitates and drives the planning, execution, and delivery of moderately complex, specific, to the achievement of strategic business goals, operational objectives, and program-level requirements. Collaborates with key stakeholders, vendors, and project teams to identify mutually beneficial outcomes for competing priorities and negotiate timelines to ensure objectives are met. Adheres to EPMO processes, procedures, controls, standards, tools, and templates (as required).


If selected for full time employment, we offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: Colorado Springs, CO, Phoenix, AZ, San Antonio, TX or Tampa, FL.


Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position. 


What you'll do:

  • Drive implementation of low to moderately complex work efforts, working closely with cross-functional teams and resources to achieve deliverables and milestones within established timeframes.

  • Plan, direct, organize resources, and coordinate all project activities for moderately complex work efforts through the development work efforts plans intended to accomplish goals and objectives within prescribed program guidelines, timeframes, scope, and budgets.

  • Monitor and reports on business objectives, work efforts achievements, and key indicators.

  • Communicate with stakeholders and provides insight on issues through root cause analyses.

  • Facilitate collaboration on creative alternatives to work efforts challenges and resolves issues with subject matter experts.

  • Remove obstacles and impediments to ensure business and operational objectives are met.

  • Develop and track project budgets that may include necessary capital expenditures, operational expenses, and labor funding requirements.

  • Identify and apply best practices and needed process improvement, drives adoption and challenges standards.

  • Monitor project execution to deliver incremental business value for communication to stakeholders and program managers.

  • Participate in the creation of the master work efforts plan from the underlying plans (if applicable).

  • Assist in defining the control and the overall delivery of the work efforts to meet the goals, objectives, and success criteria.

  • Establish overall cadence for communication with impacted stakeholders and provides framework for underlying work efforts(s) communication plans.

  • Manage risk by using best risk management practices to address execution challenges associated with quality, schedule, and cost, in adherence with risk management framework.

  • Drive the adoption and sustainment of changes within the organization in compliance with USAA’s Change Management methodology.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.


What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree. 

  • 6 years of relevant experience in project or program management, including planning, tracking and delivery.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated application of project management tools and methodologies.

  • Collaboration skills in a matrixed environment including providing consultative guidance to help solve enterprise level issues.

  • Possess a thorough understanding of scope definition, process, and solution mapping; process structures and components; and standard project planning methodologies.

  • Broad experience supporting projects with complex deliverables including information technology and dependencies across organizations.

  • In-depth understanding and experience working within risk management policies and procedures.

  • Current participant in the Hiring our Heroes Cohort 25-1 or a current USAA contractor in the 24-3 HOH Non-direct Cohort.

What we offer:
Hiring Our Heroes Fellows are paid by the HOH program. 


If selected for a full-time role, USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The hiring range for this position is: $89,990 - $172,000. 


Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
