Job description

Our mission is to make biology easier to engineer. Ginkgo is constructing, editing, and redesigning the living world in order to answer the globe’s growing challenges in health, energy, food, materials, and more. Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms. 


 

Ginkgo Biosecurity is building next-generation biosecurity infrastructure and deploying the technologies global leaders need to predict, detect, characterize, and respond to a wide variety of biological threats.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PCR panels for program deployment, contributing at all points from design to tech transfer
  • Work closely with the Quality team to develop metrics and reporting
  • In collaboration with other Technical Platform teams, generate, analyze and interpret PCR and sequencing data to inform product development
  • As subject matter expert on PCR and sequencing, review data, troubleshoot, and contribute to decisions on lab results and external assay validations
  • Contribute to technical assessments of new technologies, assays, and devices (commercially available or in development by other entities)
  • Maintain strong knowledge in relevant scientific areas such as pathogen genetics, metagenomics, detection methods, and associated sample types
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in molecular virology or related field 
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience
  • Strong experience with PCR assay development and execution, including digital PCR
  • Demonstrated expertise in metagenomics NGS
  • Experience with long read sequencing
  • Strong analytical skills, with an ability to make decisions based on sound scientific data
  • Demonstrated wet lab troubleshooting skills
  • Onsite availability at least 80%

  • Possess initiative and ability to identify issues and create solutions - strong bias for action
  • Ability to achieve goals in a fast-paced dynamic environment while delivering high quality results
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, emotional intelligence and an ability to work across organizational boundaries
  • Experience managing projects
  • Experience in wastewater, metagenomics, and disease causing microorganism

Total compensation for this role is market driven, with a starting salary of $150k+, as well as company stock awards.  Base pay is ultimately determined based on a candidate's skills, expertise, and experience.  We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental & vision coverage, health spending accounts, voluntary benefits, leave of absence policies, Employee Assistance Program, 401(k) program with employer contribution, 8 paid holidays in addition to a full-week winter shutdown and unlimited Paid Time Off policy.
