About Gusto

Gusto is a modern, online people platform that helps small businesses take care of their teams. On top of full-service payroll, Gusto offers health insurance, 401(k)s, expert HR, and team management tools. Today, Gusto offices in Denver, San Francisco, and New York serve more than 300,000 businesses nationwide.

Our mission is to create a world where work empowers a better life, and it starts right here at Gusto. That’s why we’re committed to building a collaborative and inclusive workplace, both physically and virtually. Learn more about our Total Rewards philosophy

About the Team

Payments are at the core of Gusto’s business. The Payment Operations Team ensures that the payments infrastructure at Gusto is operating efficiently and money is moving when expected. Payment operations oversee the end to end lifecycle of money movements. This includes payment origination, reconciliation, and reporting in our backend system. As a Payment Ops Analyst, you will be responsible for executing and maintaining processes that help us operate at scale.
We are a small, close, fun group that works hard and laughs a lot. No egos here — we collaborate and help each other out in a positive environment.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Develop a strong understanding of all aspects of the payment transaction lifecycle; from architecture, execution, reconciliations, and error resolution.
  • Identify, escalate, track, and resolve payment related issues with cross functional partners.
  • Serve as an additional line of defense to catch and prevent payment errors and loss.
  • Be a partner with risk, accounting, and tax teams as the point of contact for Gusto’s operational payment systems.
  • Monitor ACH file submissions and mitigate any transmission issues with Gusto’s payment partners.
  • Support the Payment Operations project team on implementations and continual improvement initiatives.

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • Curious, driven, focused, and detail-oriented. Able to influence without authority. Relentless in driving to closure and building strong relationships.
  • Analytic thinker, ability to map connections by looking for background information or by comparing practical examples.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
  • Ability to work cross-functionally
  • Recommended or eager to learn SQL to perform complex queries and create dashboards and alerts
  • Availability to work at PST time zone
  • This role requires being physically located and eligible to work in Turkiye
  • Bonus: 1-2 years of experience working in the payments industry or financial services

Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.

Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required.

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Gusto.
