Workers' Compensation Attorney

Career Consulting Partners has partnered with a young and growing boutique workers' compensation defense law firm. We are building the firm of the future with an employee-centric model. The founding partners come from large WC defense firms and we seek to create something more modern and collegial. Our model is designed for low-volume cases, allowing our experienced attorneys to achieve the best results for our clients.

Our firm is located in the San Fernando Valley. This is a full-time Remote Attorney role with no obligation to work in the office. All at-home office equipment will be provided. However, the attorney is required to travel for in-person appearances such as depositions, walkthroughs, expedited hearings, and trials.

The Associate Attorney will be responsible for handling workers’ compensation defense cases throughout Southern California. We have a competitive compensation package and offer full benefits. We offer one of the industry's leading bonus structures for our employees.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Handle a caseload of workers' compensation defense cases for various clients with a very active support staff (2:1 assignment ratio)
  • Conduct legal research to build effective defense strategies.
  • Manage and organize case files, ensuring all necessary documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Provide legal representation for employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation hearings and trials.
  • Communicate with clients to understand their goals and expectations.
  • Analyze claims to determine the merits of a defense and provide legal advice to clients.
  • Assess the potential exposure and liability associated with each case.
  • Prepare and draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Negotiate settlements with opposing parties or their legal representatives.
  • Advise clients on the cost-effectiveness of settlement versus continued litigation.
  • Represent clients in workers' compensation hearings, trials, and appeals.
  • Present evidence and arguments clearly and persuasively.
  • Stay informed about changes in workers' compensation laws and regulations.
  • Advise clients on compliance issues and potential impact on their businesses.
  • Educate clients on workers' compensation laws and best practices to minimize future claims.
  • Participate in mediation and alternative dispute resolution processes to resolve cases efficiently.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, legal assistants, and support staff within the firm.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute to case strategy discussions.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and results.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of California Worker's Compensation law
  • 1+ years experience in workers' compensation defense litigation
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Admission in good standing to the State Bar of California
  • Experience taking an applicant's deposition and taking/defending a doctor’s deposition
  • Experience appearing for all WC hearings (status conference, priority conference, MSC, and lien conference).
  • We do not require that the candidate have taken a case through trial, we are looking for a candidate that has prepared a case for appearance at trial. We understand that a majority of the time, cases are settled before or on the day of trial.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base Compensation: $110,000 - $215,000 + Additional Bonuses (D.O.E.)
  • Bonuses paid out quarterly
  • The most expansive and diverse compensation structure of any WC defense firm
