Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct both moderate and high-complexity laboratory tests with utmost accuracy.
  • Uphold rigorous quality control standards to ensure the reliability of results.
  • Perform routine checks on laboratory instruments, addressing any technical issues that may arise.
  • Promptly communicate critical lab findings to the relevant medical personnel or nursing units.
  • Maintain comprehensive laboratory records for tracking statistical data and billing, adhering to established documentation protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Lab Manager, medical staff, and cross-functional teams to optimize patient care and enhance service quality.
  • Utilize laboratory equipment safely and competently, following established safety protocols.
  • Remain updated on advancements in laboratory testing techniques, instruments, and products.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies and relevant regulatory requirements, including CAP, JCAHO, and state regulations.
  • Adopt a flexible and organized approach, demonstrating the ability to perform well under pressure.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in executing moderate and high-complexity laboratory testing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a keen focus on accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in conveying critical lab values.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance standards, including CAP and JCAHO.
  • Capacity to maintain organized and thorough laboratory documentation.
  • Ability to adapt and remain composed in high-pressure situations.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience, with graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program.
  • Certification from a recognized accrediting body (e.g., ASCP, NCA, AMT, CSMLS). Non-U.S. trained technicians must complete equivalency evaluations within 30 days of hire and obtain state licensure as required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the capacity of a Medical Laboratory Technician.
