Job Title: Assistant Controller - Remote | WFH

Job Overview

We invite you to become a vital member of our Finance and Administration team as an Assistant Controller. This role will allow you to collaborate closely with the Controller to manage essential accounting functions and ensure precise financial reporting, tax compliance, and robust internal controls for our organization and its affiliates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Controller to oversee budgeting and general accounting operations, which include cash management, accounts payable, fixed assets, and expense reimbursements.
  • Lead the month-end close activities, producing financial statements, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Support the Controller in formulating long-term financial strategies, providing updates on business performance to guide strategic and operational decisions.
  • Propose enhancements to financial processes and work with leadership on change initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations while delivering timely financial reports.
  • Assist in crafting the annual budget and maintaining financial forecasts.
  • Handle financial reporting and analysis, effectively managing cash flows and investments.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including the general ledger and accounts payable/receivable functions.
  • Prepare annual capital and operational budgets and forecasts, analyzing actual performance against budgeted figures.
  • Supervise the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements to support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure optimal use and maintenance of the accounting system and software.
  • Manage membership accounting functions, ensuring prompt processing of dues.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on budget creation and financial reporting to uphold consistent financial control.
  • Act as the primary liaison during annual audits and assist with tax return preparations.
  • Maintain stringent internal controls and manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.
  • Lead and nurture a high-performing accounting team, overseeing their daily tasks.
  • Undertake special projects as directed by the Controller.

Required Skills

  • Extensive expertise in budgeting, financial analysis, and auditing for both profit-driven and non-profit entities.
  • Familiarity with GAAP, FASB topics, and IRS regulations.
  • Proven team player dedicated to providing timely financial insights in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with an emphasis on stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficient in automated accounting systems (experience with Sage, Concur, bill.com, Solver, Salesforce preferred) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or management.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in budgeting and financial analysis.
  • CPA certification is mandatory; a graduate degree is advantageous.
