Technical Writer

The Opportunity: 

Are you interested in using your technical expertise and people skills to assist the Client in their mission to establish a modernized data and technology presence? Our team is looking for a technical writer who can work alongside our technical subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop clear and helpful technical documentation that both our team and our customers can use in their efforts to support the client's data modernization goals.  

As a technical writer on our team, you will be responsible for collaborating with data scientists, developers, and others to shepherd technical documentation from conception to publication. The type of documentation you will work on will cover various topics from Azure and non-Azure platform services to data platform procedural guidelines. We need someone who can help our team members translate complex subjects and processes into accessible and well-structured guidance material. You must be able to use your writing skills to assist readers in making connections between granular concepts and big picture ideas. Outside of just writing, we are looking for an excellent communicator with the ability to facilitate discussions between SMEs and leadership. This is vital to ensuring that the documentation we produce for both our clients and team members is meaningful and professional. You should also be capable of effectively coordinating with SMEs on numerous teams on any concerns or questions you have as they relate to deadlines, documentation, or any other similar matters.

You Have: 

  • 3+ years of experience with technical writing 

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, including Styling, Formatting, Layout, and Accessibility Checks 

  • Experience with diagramming tools, such as Lucidchart, Visio, Draw.io and Excalidraw

  • Experience creating and maintaining documentation using Markdown or HTML 

  • Experience with Jira or other industry standard task management software

  • Ability to communicate professionally and in a timely manner with team members and clients 

  • Ability to conduct independent research as necessary to search for client solutions 

  • Ability to lead meetings with SMEs and leadership to discuss topics and issues related to technical documentation 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination based on client requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree  

 

Nice If You Have: 

  • Experience with writing technical training documentation related to Azure services or subscription-based application services 

  • Experience with granting and maintaining SharePoint permissions 

  • Experience with Power BI dashboards 

  • Experience working in a collaborative version controlled GitHub repository, including knowledge of submitting PRs and performing code reviews

  • Experience working with pandoc and LaTeX 

  • Experience with Atlassian Confluence 

  • Experience writing and maintaining Wiki-based documentation

  • Knowledge of 508 accessibility standards 

  • Knowledge of Azure based services

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $54,000.00 to $123,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen’s total compensation package for employees. This posting will close within 90 days from the Posting Date.
