Description

Who we are

Marvel Fusion, founded in 2019 and based in Munich, is a technology pioneer in the field of safe, clean, and reliable power generation. With the aim of solving one of the biggest problems of humanity, we are developing a completely new type of fusion energy technology that dramatically increases the probability of fusion and builds on recent advances in laser and nanoscience.

Our mission is to unlock the potential of fusion power generation: abundant, clean, economic and safe energy. On the critical path is the demonstration of the key features of Marvel Fusion's unique fusion approach leveraging ultra-high intensity, short-pulse lasers and nanostructured targets. In recent years, the Experimental Physics Group at Marvel Fusion has implemented a new research laboratory at a world-class, ultra-high-intensity, short-pulse laser facility in the Greater Munich area. Moreover, we have partnered with international laser facilities, including the world's most powerful laser facility ELI-NP in Măgurele (RO) and will soon break ground to build a revolutionary high-power laser facility in Colorado (US). Together, these facilities are providing an excellent research platform to conduct groundbreaking laser-fusion research.

Why Marvel Fusion

By joining us, you will be:

  • Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
  • Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
  • Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
  • Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default

The impact you will make

As an Experimental Scientist, Nuclear/High Energy Density Physics, you will become part of our team of seasoned scientists and be responsible for planning and executing pioneering experimental campaigns in laser-driven fusion, including development of novel diagnostic instruments with high fidelity, always keeping our goal in mind: to make fusion energy happen.

More specifically, you will:

  • Plan, develop, and execute key experimental campaigns in the field of nuclear fusion driven by ultra-short, high intensity laser pulses interacting with advanced targets at facilities worldwide, which will include:
    • Formulate experimental goals, define project planning and lead the design of components of the experimental set-up
    • Design and calibration of diagnostics for ultrashort laser-plasma interaction based on sources of photons and charged particles
    • Data analysis and data reduction, and their comparison to numerical simulation results
  • Be part of a team and work collaboratively with scientists and engineers in a highly dynamic working environment
  • Exchange scientific results with peers and compare and evaluate the results with alternative methods
  • Write (scientific) reports and present findings to management and key stakeholders
  • Be a key element of defining and pursuing the forefront scientific mission of the company, following a strict code of ethics, and protecting any confidential information at all time

Activities will initially be performed in the Greater Munich (DE) area, with occasional travel to research facilities worldwide.

What You Bring

  • Proven hands-on experience and expertise in experimental studies of high energy density laboratory physics and/or nuclear physics is required.
  • Expertise in x-ray imaging and/or neutron diagnostics in the context of fusion experiments is a plus
  • Completed a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, or equivalent breadth and depth of experience
  • You are flexible and creative in pursuing new topics to push forward pioneering research
  • You love digging into and solving complex problems that require attention to detail and are a critical thinker
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English to effectively interact with all members of Marvel Fusion and its collaborators
  • You are recognized as a resource or high impact contributor as evidenced by conference presentations or publications in refereed journals
  • You are a team player, like traveling, and enjoy working in multi-disciplinary teams

What We Offer

  • An opportunity to make a huge impact on the future of our planet by making clean, safe and abundant energy possible
  • Flexible working, location- and hours-wise
  • A human-centred company culture with super nice and supportive colleagues
  • A great sense of community through team events and fun in and outside the office
  • A modern office with a lot of collaborative space close to Theresienwiese in Munich
  • Highly competitive compensation and benefits package
