Job description

This is a remote position.

Full-time (40 hours a week)
Monday to Friday 9 am - 6pm CST with 1 hour unpaid break (8 paid hours per day)




As a Legal Assistant / Customer Service Representative, you’ll be the vital link between our attorneys and the individuals seeking justice. You’ll manage incoming inquiries, conduct initial client intakes, and play a crucial role in case preparation. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful legal work while developing your skills in a fast-paced, purpose-driven environment. You’ll be instrumental in helping clients navigate complex legal situations, ensuring they feel supported and informed throughout the process.

Responsibilities
  • Handle incoming calls and emails from potential clients, providing compassionate and professional first-point contact
  • Conduct thorough initial intake interviews, gathering essential information to support case evaluation
  • Manage lead follow-ups and coordinate attorney appointments, ensuring efficient case progression
  • Assist with the discovery process by collecting and organizing client information and documentation
  • Coordinate the request and management of medical records and other case-relevant materials
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients, keeping them informed about their case status
  • Support attorneys by managing administrative tasks related to case preparation and client management


Requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on empathy and clarity
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion
  • Basic understanding of legal terminology (preferred )
  • Proficiency in using various communication tools and office software
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic work environment
  • Passion for social justice and commitment to supporting civil rights causes
  • High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Basic understanding of legal terminology (preferred )
