Compensation: $96,000 to $109,200 USD annually

About the position:

The Associate Director will advance, attract, and retain funding partnerships from foundations. The Associate Director will exclusively focus on this high-capacity cohort, increasing donor qualification, outreach solicitation and stewardship, and ultimately increasing revenue to support the organization's five-year growth strategy.

Key Outcomes:

In the first 90 days, the Associate Director will:

  • Learn and live the Americares values.
  • Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings.
  • Establish productive working relationships with the Sr. Director, Foundation Relations, other members of the Philanthropy and Partnerships team, the Development Department and select members of Programs.
  • Learn the SOPs for Americares’ donor database, prospect research and moves management.
  • Begin prospecting and take on a portfolio of lower-level foundation donors, managing all aspects of the donor relationships, with guidance from the Sr. Director.

In the first 6 months, the Associate Director will:

  • Work in partnership with Sr. Director, Institutional Giving (Michael Paul) and the Sr. Director, Foundation Relations to act upon larger Institutional Giving prospecting and stewardship strategies and develop strategies specific to low-level foundation donors.
  • Begin to support proposal and report writing and editing and other stewardship tasks for high-level foundation donors on behalf of the Sr. Director, Foundation relations.

In the first year, the Associate Director will:

  • Stewarding existing foundation relationships, crafting foundation-specific invitations and outreach
  • Help to secure 3-6 new contributions/grants from foundations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify new foundation prospects, manage them through the research process, and make qualified prospect recommendations to the Sr. Director, Foundation Relations.
  • Manage a portfolio of foundation donors, from prospecting to qualification to solicitation to stewardship.
  • Aid in the management of mid- to large-foundation donors (6- and 7-figures) with the Sr. Director, Foundation Relations, including supporting proposal and report writing and helping to create and execute stewardship plans for select high-touch donors.
  • Meet with Sr. Director, Institutional Giving and Sr. Director, Foundation Relations to contribute to overall strategy and growth of Foundation Relations program.
  • Provide prospect and donor briefings to Leadership in advance of donor meetings.
  • Build efficiencies around foundation grant proposals through creation of budget and narrative templates.
  • Hold strong relationships across Americares’ program teams to ensure knowledge of programmatic priorities, strategies, accomplishments, challenges, etc.
  • Actively model and contribute to Americares values, work culture and mission.
  • Engage in and contribute to team spaces with openness, global competencies, and a growth mindset
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and/or Experience required for the role:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of experience in a donor facing role.

These competencies are required for the role:

  • Demonstrated success in managing a portfolio of institutional donors, including securing 5-figure and higher gifts.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing fundraising strategies.
  • Excellent writing, editing and research skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and experience meeting with and presenting to institutional donors.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of comfort seeking guidance and support when needed.

US work authorization is required for this role.

These competencies would be great to have, but are not required:

  • Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
  • Experience working for a global, humanitarian non-profit organization with a mission and focus that includes health (e.g. some familiarity with health care concepts, issues, practices).
