Building a sustainable tomorrow

BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Lead Business Assurance Assessor. This position can be based from any of our UK & Ireland office locations. The role will require periodic travelling across the UK & Ireland, with occasionally travel across Europe. We fully support periods of remote working and this role can be flexible to accommodate individuals.


The role reports to the Head of Business Assurance UK&I and works collaboratively with other functions, segments, business unit teams, and certification and licence providers to undertake assessments in line with the Business Assurance Framework, standards, and business needs.


Your mission

The Lead Business Assurance Assessor is accountable for leading and driving the following:

• To help establish a network of competent personnel within business units and functions to deliver self-assessment of the Business Assurance framework.

• To develop training, coaching and mentoring approach to ensure competency, consistency and capacity is maintained.

• In conjunction with the Head of Business Assurance UK&I create a programme of independent assessments for the Division.

• To carry out the planned assessments in an efficient, economic, lean manner and ensure reports and recommendations are communicated in a timely manner.

• Promote best practise and knowledge sharing across the Division.

• Maintain the confidentiality of any findings.

• Identify any expertise required to support the assurance programme and notifying the Head of Business Assurance.

• To promote the increased use of digital tools to drive assurance at all stages of the project lifecycle.

• To collate and report on trends within findings.

• Manage certifications and licenses to operate within area of responsibility and coordinating with the business and providers to arrange audits and leading the close out of findings.

• Coordinate with other lead business assessors to maintain a UK&I register of key points of contact for the division’s licenses to operate and third-party certifications.

• Maintain third party and license to operate audit programme as part of a UK&I audit plan and follow up for effective delivery.

• Report on third-party audit findings, trends and identifying accountability for addressing any issues in relation to certifications and licences to operate and ensuring a plan is in place to rectify in a timely manner.

• Manage third-party improvement plan, reporting on its status and ensuring timely close out.

• Coordinate with other lead business assurance assessors and the business to ensure alignment of certifications, coordination of audits and collaboration on identification/resolution of common issues across the business units and functions.

• Collate and track audit findings from self-certification within business units and functions to ensure issues are addressed in relation to certification requirements.

• Review 1st line audit programme and liaise with other lead business assurance assessors on 2nd line programme, to ensure an adequate self-assessed audit coverage and verification plan is in place, to meet certification and license to operate requirements.

• Identify changes to certification requirements and emerging opportunities and assisting the Head of Business Assurance UK&I in determining future approach and opportunities.

• Review Group internal audit findings, log as part of the UK&I audit trend and support segments in closing out.

• Continually develop the approach to third-party certifications and licenses to operate to ensure maximum value and recommend economies of scale.

• Measuring cost and value from company certification and reporting on the current status.

• Deputising for the Head of Business Assurance UK&I where instructed to do so

• Other requirements as may be instructed by the Head of Business Assurance UK &I from time to time.

The following elements are mandatory:

• Strong communication skills (written, oral and aural)

• Ability to bring teams together and work effectively.

• Strong knowledge of the UK&I construction markets

• Strong commercial/ contractual awareness

The following elements are desirable:

• Suitable academic qualifications: degree, HND or associated subject in Engineering/Quality/ Business management

• Experience in the construction industry within the UK and Ireland

• Suitable professional qualification through a recognised industry body.
