The Opportunity
Skift seeks a skilled and dynamic climate reporter to join our team in the UK (remote anywhere in-country).The ideal candidate will specialize in climate-related journalism, with a strong understanding of how environmental changes and sustainability concerns are reshaping the travel industry. This reporter will be responsible for covering the intersection of climate change and travel, reporting on how the travel sector is responding to and innovating around environmental challenges and sustainability demands.
Skift is a fully distributed, remote company with employees based across the globe. This position is remote and requires a high level of coordination and communication skills to be successful. You must be able to work independently, meet goals, set tasks in a timely manner, join meetings via video, and periodically work outside normal company hours for special events or project
Some of What You'll Do
- Pitch and write provocative articles by tapping into the major players across the industry
- Monitor and write breaking news updates on the travel sector
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive coverage and alignment with Skift's editorial objectives
- Conduct on-point interviews with key industry thought leaders
- Write feature length articles on climate challenges and solutions
- Evaluate the latest trends in the climate and sustainability sectors
The Experience You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
- Proven experience as a business reporter, preferably in the travel industry
- Strong understanding of the travel experiences sector, including tours, activities, and travel agency dynamics
- Proficiency in various social media platforms and tools
- Excellent research, analytical, and interviewing skills
- Ability to connect dots and identify trends in the industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Bonus Points: Comfortable on stage and interviewing at live events
- Proven experience in a newsroom or similar dynamic media environment
- In-depth understanding of the travel industry and its dynamics
