As a Senior Software Engineer for the Web Platform, you will be responsible for designing and implementing highly innovative and interactive web platform applications for the Saks customer base.  You will work directly with product managers, UX designers, and operations team members to deliver highly performant, robust solutions that create the best possible experience for our customers.

Role Summary:

A Senior Software Engineer at Saks is a role model to the rest of the team for quality of contributions, technical leadership, and commitment to the improvement of the customer experience, the quality of our software, and the growth and development of the software engineering team. A Senior Software Engineer is expected to:

  • Have proficiency in multiple languages, frameworks, and tools

  • Have developed at least one major technical skillset outside of programming, such as monitoring, performance optimization, application security, or infrastructure engineering

  • Be capable of eliciting and analyzing requirements, designing solutions, and coordinating efforts to delivery solutions for projects of moderate complexity

  • Debug and resolve production issues in applications independently, using judgment to bring in team members as appropriate

  • Use data-driven methods to define strategies and build support for designs and implementation strategies

  • Be aware of and have informed opinions on industry best practices and trends; know when to adopt new technologies and understand the benefits and costs of migrations

  • Drive continuous improvement on the team through contributions to core technologies, capabilities, standards, and processes

  • Mentor other team members in a variety of forums, including code reviews, demos, pair programming, production support, and team meetings

  • Work with non-technical colleagues from other functional areas to define and deliver on business and product goals

Key Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with several of the following:

    • Swagger / OpenAPI / GraphQL

    • Automated Contract Testing

    • NodeJS / Javascript / Kotlin / Java

    • AWS products and architecture

    • Automated testing frameworks and TDD

    • CI / CD practices

    • Docker / Kubernetes

    • DataDog

  • Experience designing and developing continuous delivery pipelines and production feedback loops using any of the following technologies

    • Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (e.g. Jenkins, GoCD, GitHub, CircleCI)

    • Build and Test Frameworks (e.g. Maven)

    • Configuration Management (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack)

    • Artifact Management (e.g. Artifactory)

    • Orchestration 2(e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)

    • Monitoring and Incident Response (e.g. Prometheus, CloudWatch)

  • Proficiency in Java

  • Excellent understanding of object-oriented analysis and design

  • Demonstrated success in collaborating in a fast-paced team environment and delivering high-quality software products using established agile development methodologies (such as Scrum, Kanban, etc.) against formal schedules

  • 3+ years of industry experience.
