Job description

What You'll Do

Avalara is looking for an experienced Senior Change and Continuous Improvement Specialist to lead operational success in the global Projects, Change and Continuous Improvement (C&CI) team. As an individual contributor, you will lead C&CI activities and coordinate improvement activities across the Customer and Compliance Organization (CCO) and specifically in our US tax services with an aim of delivering a best in class tax compliance solutions that delivers low-cost, high value services for Avalara and its customers.

You will report directly to the Director of Project, C&CI. You will work hybrid (2 -3 days in office) out of our Durham, NC location.

Additionally, You Will

  • Work with operational delivery teams, automation and data teams, project managers, contractors, development teams and other project team members to deliver operational improvements and department level transformations
  • Construct all Standard Operating procedures and process hierarchy for the CCO Operational team
  • Shape and guide delivery through practical application of Lean Management tools including the hosting of Kaizen events and workshops with colleagues at all levels
  • Map, improve and guide processes, ensuring a smooth flow and tracking of deliverables, activities and information.
  • Train and coach others in Lean Six Sigma principles to mature a Lean Six Sigma culture across the Avalara business.
  • Build measurement and control tools to ensure delivered improvements continue to deliver and are sustained within an improving and controlled environment


What You'll Need to be Successful

  • Completed Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least 8 years of related experience and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt
  • At least 8 years of managing cross functional project teams within a global technology company
  • Experience delivering Lean Six Sigma training and coaching
  • Experience with CIToolKit, Minitab, and project management system like Jira


About The Team

The Projects, Change and Continuous Improvement team is a global team supporting our large CCO organization and sitting within the Business Excellence function. The team is comprised of Lean Six Sigma and project management experts and are responsible for the effective execution of change and improvement initiatives across our operational areas, as well as training and culture building for our customers within these operation areas.
