The role
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be working in the Nuclear Commercial Strategy function and supporting the development of the Long-Term Partnering Agreement between Babcock and the Ministry of Defence (MOD). 

Day-to-day, you will act as a senior leader in the Commercial function, providing guidance to the team to create a commercially viable in-service submarine support solution that is fit for the future. 
  

  • Provide commercial expertise and governance to internal stakeholders (finance, project teams, supply chain and senior management) in the development of proposals and functional reviews, processes, policies, and commercial risks. 
  • Be confident and competent when interacting with stakeholders and work to develop positive customer relationships in order to represent the company to negotiate scope, terms, and price.     
  • Develop innovative and pragmatic commercial solutions in a dynamic environment. 


This role is full time working 35 hours per week. This is a hybrid role however you must be able to attend the Bristol office ½ a day per week on a Monday, Tuesday or a Thursday. Please note the frequency may increase.

 

Essential experience of the Senior Commercial Manager:

  • Extensive experience in contract and bid management, ideally gained within the UK Defence market. 
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial terms and types of agreements. 
  • Experienced in UK MOD contracting methods and strategies (DEFCONs, SC2, DEFFORMs).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Deadline driven to meet critical internal governance and customer timelines, with good attention to detail.

 

Qualifications for the Senior Commercial Manager:

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Engineering, Business, Law or Accountancy, but not essential
  • Professional memberships of WCC (World Commerce and Contracting).
