Job description

Location: Chicago, IL

Work Type: Full Time (Total FTE between 0.9 and 1.0)

Shift: Shift 3

Work Schedule: 12 Hr (7:00:00 PM - 7:00:00 AM)

Summary

Manages extracorporeal circuit, for patients on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedure.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring of the extracorporeal circuit.
  • Ensuring adequate organ and tissue perfusion and oxygenation of the ECMO patient.
  • Troubleshooting and replacing malfunctioning components of the extracorporeal circuit, which may include emergent life threatening situations.
  • Under the direction of a physician is responsible for administration of fluids and/or blood products via the extracorporeal circuit.
  • Testing and maintaining of adequate anti-coagulation.
  • Taking scheduled call shifts.

Other Information

Required Job Qualifications:

  • Currently licensed by the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse, Registered Respiratory Therapist, or Certified Clinical Perfusionist.
  • Working knowledge of neonatal and pediatric congenital heart disease and physiology.
  • Experience in a pediatric or neonatal critical care setting.
  • Satisfactory completion of RUMC ECMO specialist training program.
  • Ability to work in a complex clinical environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly stressful work environment, where attention to detail is necessary to prevent patient morbidity and mortality.
  • High level of analytical ability.
  • Working knowledge of computers.
