Director Technology, Boundary App Engineering
Reports To: Senior Director, Enterprise Solutions
The Director Technology, Boundary App Engineering is responsible for all elements of Application Delivery ranging from solution architecture, design, development, testing and implementation. This role is a senior member of the Enterprise Solutions Leadership Team. This role will have overall accountability for delivering the right application development services, at the right time, at the right investment level. This leader will help define the Application Development Roadmap and Reference Architecture(s) for the Boundary Apps within Enterprise Solutions scope. The role will be expected to introduce the appropriate level of operational excellence processes and activities to ensure we deliver a high quality, consistent experience for our Team Members and Customers. You will be expected to challenge the status quo with an aim to spectacularly accelerate the pace at which IT delivers business capabilities. This role will have direct management responsibility for a team of approx. 50 associates Additionally, this position will have responsibility for maintaining an effective labor sourcing strategy, including using contract labor and/or outsource partners.
**This role is approved to be remote within the United States or hybrid, near Newport News, VA, in accordance with company policy.**
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic vision and ensure that the Boundary Apps application portfolio provides a high degree of scalability, security, reliability, performance and availability.
- Develop and implement strategic technology roadmaps for the application portfolio to ensure that they are supporting the needs of the business and taking advantage of new technologies.
- Establish clear goals and objectives, develop critical metrics that will indicate progress toward those goals and business outcomes.
- Manage large, sophisticated implementations that may include thousands of individual store locations.
- Lead team members coordinating all aspects of application development and delivery across multiple business units.
- Identify emerging technology trends and ensure the company is using as appropriate to increase productivity, reduce costs and deliver value.
- Work with direct reports to develop project and resource plans for new initiatives including budgets, staffing plans, turning point achievements and progress reporting.
- Recruit, develop and retain high caliber software development talent and develop a career path for the various roles.
- Evaluate team members performance, provide candid feedback and coaching than enables and motivates them to achieve objectives.
- Manage key vendors that provide application development services, oversight of service contracts, oversight of performance against SLAs and conducting business reviews.
- Establish and ensure compliance with service levels and performance metrics.
- Ensure departmental procedures, practices and standards are managed and enforced.
- Prepare and handle capital and expense budgets.
- Perform project and non-project related tasks and activities to support the department’s goals and objectives
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Systems.
- Minimum of 8 years senior IT leadership experience and understanding of all aspects of a large-scale application delivery function.
- Ability to communicate and interact with all levels of employees and management.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and meet ambitious deadlines.
- Solid experience leading others in Lean and/or Agile methodologies; experience working in a product-centric organization is a plus.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Superb communication and social skills.
- Consistent track record of building, leading, developing and retaining a team of high performing professionals.
- Productive, able to handle multiple priorities and meet timelines and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a culture that adopts change and challenges historic paradigms.
- Solid background of delivering initiatives on time and on budget.
- Has a bias to action and innovation, is curious, and is constantly learning.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience moving development organization from traditional waterfall methodology to Agile methodologies.
- Experience deploying software and services in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Demonstrable experience defining, building and maturing API layers into legacy environments.
- Demonstrable ability to influence and sell ideas to people outside your direct team.
- Experience negotiating and managing vendor agreements.
- Familiarity with IT and IT service management concepts (ITIL).
- Critical incident management and response experience.
- Demonstrated track record of improving stability and reducing costs.
- Experience creating, maintaining and optimizing Standard Operating Procedures.

Estimated Ranges displayed are Monthly for Salaried roles OR Hourly for all other roles.
