Mr. Cooper's Homegrown 10-week, summer internship program offers college or post-graduate students the chance to discover what it's like to work at a leading financial services organization. Our interns deliver innovative solutions to real business challenges and build enduring relationships with their manager and an assigned mentor. Our summer internship program begins in June 2025 and ends in August 2025.

Mr. Cooper’s Legal Department is comprised of lawyers and other legal professionals who provide day-to-day advice and guidance to the various Mr. Cooper lines of business and corporate functions.  Among other duties, the Legal Department manages the company’s contentions contentious litigation, oversees regulatory enforcement matters, documents and structures transactions, interprets regulatory guidance, manages and prosecutes intellectual property rights, negotiates contractual arrangement agreements with counterparties and vendors, and gives guidance on employment related issues.  Working as a Legal Intern, you will gain exposure to senior legal leadership, work on substantive real-world legal issues impacting Mr. Cooper’s businesses, and further develop your professional network.

Representative assignments you will be part of as a Legal Intern include projects requiring research, reviewing and drafting contracts, Non-Disclosure Agreements, assisting in the development of communication/correspondence and/or policies, and preparing cease and desist letters.  As a Legal Intern you also will participate in meetings with teammates from across various segments of the company and gain meaningful exposure to different parts of the Mr. Cooper businesses.

Upon starting the program, each Legal Intern is assigned a project with a set of deliverables to own.  These projects are specially designed to provide meaningful work experiences over the summer, and help develop important skill sets, such as presentation skills, collaboration/networking, process management, and building insights into action.

Mr. Cooper is seeking candidates for our Legal Intern program who are self-starters, inquisitive and highly collaborative persons.  The successful candidate will be very eager to learn and grow with us, and willing to bring their authentic self to our strong corporate culture.  We are especially interested in candidates who have a passion for the law coupled with a genuine interest in financial services companies.

The program may include portions that are virtual, as well as in person over the course of the summer.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Juris doctorate program at an accredited law school. Rising 1L or 2L, preferred.
  • Previous experience working in (or even coursework relating to) a mortgage company, or financial services is preferred. 
  • Efficient researcher and proficient communicator.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of tools.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Candidates must have authorization to work permanently in the US without the need for sponsorship (currently, our organization is unable to support candidates that are on OPT, CPT or candidates that will need sponsorship, now or in the future)
