Position Location(s): Remote but must be within an hour commutable distance from the Maryland data center in case of emergencies, and stop by once or twice a month (address: 10000 Derekwood Lane, Lanham, MD 20706)

Position Overview: 

The Sr. IT Network Engineer will be responsible for router/switch/firewall configuration and security management of an environment that includes networking equipment from several different manufacturers. As the Sr. IT Network Engineer, you will work within the IT Operations group with implementation and integration initiatives with various infrastructure systems. You will work collaboratively with both the Information Technology team and the Application Development group to implement network related projects/tasks. network devices.

A Day in the Life of the Sr. IT Network Engineer: 

  • Configure and install software, switches, routers, firewalls and other network devices
  • Conduct integration testing of new network hardware, network design and software to support network infrastructure evolution
  • Collaborate with security team to ensure new software, platform and design meets PCI security compliance requirements
  • Monitor network performance and integrity
  • Mentor team members on technical issues
  • Document all connectivity and network changes using Visio and Microsoft Office
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to support a 24/7 environment
  • Participate and assist fellow team members with testing new products, demos and proof-of-concepts
  • Perform and assist the team with overnight scheduled maintenances
  • Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning and implementing network security measures
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and other network related issues
  • Support and troubleshoot site-to-site and remote access VPN issues
  • Follow all documented change control process requirements to implement changes in the production environment
  • Work independently and support the platforms and network designs through their lifecycle
  • The ideal candidate will be a senior technologist with strong cross-functional skills and hands on experience with diverse vendor platforms (Cisco, Juniper, PAN)
  • Other duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Table: 

  • Minimum of 7 years with Cisco & Juniper components
  • Cisco CCNA, CCNP, CCIE certifications or relative experience
  • Strong knowledge of data communications protocols and utilities (TCP/IP) and possess the ability to perform rudimentary packet analysis
  • Must have experience with design, routing and switching design concepts for data centers
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced dynamic environment
  • Strong knowledge of Cisco & Juniper LAN/WAN hardware components (routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of firewalls including Cisco ASA/FirePower, Palo Alto Networks and Juniper SRX
  • Knowledge of Leaf-Spine architecture and VXLAN preferred
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to be on a rotating on call environment
  • Ability to commute to the data center in MD once or twice a month, or upon an emergency 

Education: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

The base salary range in Maryland for this position is $145,000- $155,000, plus opportunities for bonus and benefits, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities. It is specific to Maryland and may not be applicable to other locations.
