Job description

Technical Data Architect, Senior

The Opportunity:
For an organization to transform in today’s digital world, it needs to properly collect, store, and organize its data. Effective data management can enable more efficient operations, yielding more growth. As a data architect, you know how to apply your creative-thinking and analytical mindset to help organizations manage their data assets. We’re looking for a data architecture lead like you to solve complex challenges and deliver leading-edge solutions for Booz Allen's internal IT Operations Data Lake.

As a data architect on our internal IT team, you’ll use your extensive technical expertise to lead the design of data architecture solutions that scale to perform in a petabyte-sized Databricks Lakehouse used by key stakeholders across the IT organization. You are someone well-versed in data modeling concepts with enough technical understanding of big data implementations to optimize the data structures and avoid design pitfalls. Within your first year, you’ll perform key roles such as designing, documenting, and overseeing delivery of data governance and access controls for existing data, working closely with our requirements team to fold stakeholder requests into a logical data model designed to scale for analyst needs, and carefully balancing performance, security, and ease-of-use considerations in designing and overseeing implementation of the semantic modeling layer of the data lake to support reporting and other advanced use cases.

You will be hands-on in Databricks working closely with data engineers, requirements, and stakeholders to deliver the logical organization of data as the Lakehouse continues to grow and take on new data sources. You will work closely with a small, dedicated team of high-skilled data professionals and will have significant influence on the design and direction of the Lakehouse platform. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

Join us. The world can’t wait.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing data models
  • 3+ years of experience using Python in a data engineering or analysis context
  • 3+ years of experience using SQL in an analysis context
  • 3+ years of experience working with data consumers and producers to design and define data models to meet operational needs
  • 2+ years of experience using the Databricks Lakehouse platform
  • Knowledge of performance considerations when interacting with large datasets
  • Knowledge of data modeling patterns and best practices
  • Knowledge of Attribute-based Access Control principles
  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience with Apache Spark, including pyspark or scala spark
  • Knowledge of basic AWS services S3, EC2, and SQS
  • Knowledge of regulated industry data protection requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, FedRamp, SOX, PCI, or HIPAA
  • Possession of excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Data Modeling or CS field
  • Databricks Certifications
  • AWS Cloud Architect Certification
