Job Overview

As the Lead Teacher in our Early ECEAP Program, you will be instrumental in crafting a nurturing and stimulating learning atmosphere for infants and toddlers. Your role will involve close collaboration with your assistant teacher and site team to empower parents in their critical role as their child’s primary educators, thereby enriching the connection between home and school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivate a culture of respect, support, and creativity within the Head Start and ECEAP team.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional guidance to assistant teachers, fostering their growth.
  • Collaborate with the site team to achieve full program enrollment through ongoing recruitment efforts.
  • Develop a daily schedule of activities and routines tailored to meet the developmental needs of children.
  • Create and implement lesson plans that align with ECEAP performance standards, offering a child-centered, multicultural curriculum.
  • Engage positively with each child, addressing their learning and emotional needs.
  • Work in partnership with your Assistant Teacher to organize classroom materials and create an inviting learning environment.
  • Maintain open and respectful communication with families, involving them in their child’s educational journey.
  • Collaborate with your site team to plan and facilitate family events and meetings, providing support for diverse families as needed.
  • Lead at least four annual educational planning meetings with each child’s family to review progress and set future goals.
  • Observe and document each child’s development throughout the year, creating a personalized learning plan within 90 days of school entry.
  • Administer developmental screening tools, re-screening and referring as necessary.
  • Assist in meal preparation and ensure a supportive mealtime experience for children.
  • Teach and model healthy habits; monitor classroom and playground safety.
  • Collaborate with Mental Health Professionals and Nurse Consultants to provide additional support as needed.
  • Supervise and support teaching assistants and aid in the recruitment and training of family and community volunteers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and planning, including individual education plans.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions to foster continuous professional development.
  • Ensure smooth transitions for children and families to new programs or after-school activities.
  • Stay updated on program developments and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for infants and toddlers.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a team member and communicate efficiently with families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to diverse situations and new instructional methods.
  • Basic clerical skills, including record-keeping, filing, and typing.
  • Willingness to attend occasional evening meetings.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 12 college quarter credits in early childhood education or a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Food Handler's Permit within 30 days of hire.

  • Hourly rate: \(21.44 to \)27.18, based on experience.
