Job Overview

We are on the lookout for a dedicated Interpreter Education Specialist (IES) to join our Interpreter Education and Professional Development (IEPD) team. This fully remote position plays a vital role in nurturing a culture of continuous education, honoring diversity, and advocating for professional excellence within the interpreting sector. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with the IEPD Program Manager on various initiatives and projects.
  • Utilize instructional design principles to craft impactful learning experiences.
  • Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop goal-oriented educational materials, including virtual training, guides, and interactive exercises.
  • Create captivating educational content through diverse formats such as simulations, group discussions, self-paced eLearning, and blended learning approaches.
  • Support the execution of workshops, training logistics, and skill assessments while providing mentorship as required.
  • Act as a reliable resource for training, ensuring all materials align with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with interpreting management to enhance participant experiences with training products.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to further departmental objectives.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional teaching, mentoring, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, with aptitude for teaching in ASL.
  • Strong dedication to a learner-centric approach in interpreter education and professional growth.
  • Expertise in instructional design, learning theory, applied linguistics, interpreter education, or distance learning.
  • Ability to embrace innovation and work on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including reporting tools and online meeting platforms.
  • Familiarity with the Video Relay Service (VRS) industry is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct is beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Certification from a national interpreter certifying body (such as RID CSC, CI/CT, CDI, NIC, BEI, or NAD Level IV or V) or state certification.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Active involvement in Deaf community organizations or professional memberships in interpreting or Deaf studies is a plus.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a sign language interpreter or Deaf Interpreter in a variety of settings is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in instructional design for web-based or instructor-led training is beneficial.
