Major Responsibilities:

Contract Reviews:

  • Conducts contract reviews for Compliance and Privacy risks for all UMass Memorial entities.
  • Follows documented standard work to drive consistency, including but not limited to, standard Compliance and Privacy provisions and, where applicable, documentation of fair market value.
  • Escalates non-standard contract provisions and/or questions to entity Compliance Officers and/or to the Associate Privacy Officer.
  • Collaborates and communicate with business owners regarding open items or questions preventing Compliance or Privacy approval of a contract.
  • Follows up as needed with business owners on pending contracts.
  • Makes edits and comments to contracts reviewed in the UMass Memorial contract management system.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Documents the status of each contract reviewed in the Compliance Office contract tracking spreadsheet.
  • Develops and distribute weekly a digest of contracts reviewed and approved to UMass Memorial compliance and privacy officers, including a short abstract regarding the nature of the contract, UMass Memorial contracting entity and third party to the contract.
  • Creates monthly and ad hoc reports of contract management volume and status for use in Compliance and Privacy dashboards.

Process Improvement:

  • Identifies and communicates to the operational owner opportunities to improve the UMass Memorial contact management system and process.
  • Participates in stakeholder teams for the UMass Memorial contract management system.
  • Identifies and communicate to relevant operational owners' opportunities to train and develop UMass Memorial business owners in the use of the UMass Memorial contract management system and contract development and review.
  • Collaborates with compliance and privacy officers to identify opportunities for contract template enhancement.
  • Audits legacy contracts for recommended and/or required amendments as needed.

Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree.

Preferred:

  • Degree concentration in legal studies.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

  • Three or more years' experience reviewing contracts for regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of key health care Compliance and Privacy regulations and related contractual provisions.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong editing and writing skills.
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred:

  • Experience within and knowledge of health care systems.
