Job description

Hello potential future Oatly employee. It’s us, the original oatmilk company that started in Sweden 30 or so years ago. We are thrilled to be expanding our presence in Canada and invite you to join the plant-based revolution as a Barista Market Developer for Vancouver. If you're driven to help us make a positive impact in the world, here's your chance to be a change-maker.

As a Barista Market Developer (BMD), you will be instrumental in establishing Oatly Barista Edition as the leading dairy-free alternative in Vancouver coffee channel. Your primary responsibilities include leveraging your in-depth knowledge of coffee shops in the area to cultivate strong relationships, drive brand awareness, and promote trial experiences for Oatly. Utilizing your network of influential individuals, you'll advocate for Oatly, embodying our brand values with enthusiasm and comprehensive product knowledge.

The role reports to the Barista Team Lead for North America, is based in Vancouver and requires fluent English communication skills.

This next section is for all the bullet point lovers out there:

What we need you to bring to the table:

  • Solid experience within the specialty coffee industry with demonstrable commercial experience
  • Deep understanding of Vancouver's coffee landscape, attuned to emerging trends and market dynamics
  • The personality to succeed in this role – collaborative, energetic, flexible, humble, dedicated, supportive, reliable, positive and trustworthy
  • Alignment with Oatly's mission of sustainability, nutritional health, and trust.
  • The ability to thrive in an unconventional work structure, demonstrating a proactive approach and comfort with ambiguity
  • The physical capability to cover distances on foot while carrying Oatly products

What we need you to do:

  • Execute the development strategy for Oatly Barista Edition within the city scene, injecting your personal Insights and creativity
  • Cultivate robust relationships within Vancouver’s diverse coffee community, encompassing baristas, café owners, and other relevant stakeholders, winning them through your unique personality, outstanding knowledge and strong credibility
  • Champion Oatly's prominence by actively cultivating strategic partnerships with influential accounts
  • Promote awareness of sustainability's impact on the coffee industry
  • Curate and execute engaging coffee events to foster community bonding while spotlighting sustainability
  • Assist with the execution of larger activations across Vancouver and be an inspiring ambassador for the brand (by being yourself)

Who we need you to be:

  • You are already engaged with our brand and you love our products
  • You are immersed within the specialty coffee industry, particularly entrenched within Vancouver’s dynamic coffee scene
  • You feel connected to our mission of encouraging health, sustainability, and transparency
  • You are a self-starter who doesn’t need direct supervision to motivate you for success – we believe strongly in building a culture of individual accountability and ownership
  • You are ready to make your mark in a growing brand leveraging your experience to deliver amazing results and build an outstanding company
  • You have entrepreneurial spirit in that you’re comfortable with ambiguity and are energized by the process of building something lasting from the ground up
  • You are a passionate advocate of the sustainability agenda who want to create societal shifts and drive the plant-based revolution

Another bulleted list felt redundant, so we wrote this long sentence with all the ways we sweeten the deal to work with us, like providing flexible vacation for starters, really great benefits, genuinely great coworkers who want to see the company and each other succeed, and a start-up vibe with an established company history.

We value diversity and inclusion and welcome people from all backgrounds who see sustainability and health as important values. Even if your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. If you have the curiosity, passion, and collaborative spirit, it’s already a fantastic start.

We kindly ask that you apply in English
